Phase-contrast X-ray Imaging - MAXIV Update - Recent Events - New Lab & Monthly Deals - Job Openings
" Phase-contrast X-ray imaging of macromolecular crystals could find wide application at existing and upcoming low-emittance synchrotron-radiation sources. "

Published in Acta Cryst D Structural Biology by Doctor Polikarpov et al.

" For the extraction of the best possible X-ray diffraction data from macromolecular crystals, accurate positioning of the crystals with respect to the X-ray beam is crucial. In addition, information about the shape and internal defects of crystals allows the optimization of data-collection strategies. Here, it is demonstrated that the X-ray beam available on the macromolecular crystallography beamline P14 at the high-brilliance synchrotron-radiation source PETRA III at DESY, Hamburg, Germany can be used for high-energy phase-contrast microtomography of protein crystals mounted in an optically opaque lipidic cubic phase matrix. "
First Remote Operation at BioMAX
On October 31, 2019, "the BioMAX team performed together with AstraZeneca the first 8-hour remote operation experiment. The researchers from AstraZeneca in Mölndal connected successfully to the BioMAX beamline remotely and collected data from many samples during their 8-hour beamtime.

Ana Gonzalez from the BioMAX team observed together with Helena Käck from AstraZeneca the remote operation from the BioMAX control hutch At the end of the day, the BioMAX users concluded that this was a positive experience, which they want to follow up already one week later with the second remote beamtime."
Popular Tools at MAXIV and Other Beamlines
Great Remote Data Collection Requires Great Tools

Simplify your crystal harvesting & avoid damaging fragile crystals.

The scientifically engineered design of the MicroLoops LD provides a long narrow loop to minimize drop disturbance when inserted into small liquid drops.

Avoid waste and eliminate time spent gluing loops. You can reuse these bases over and over without epoxy or glue.

SPINE, ALS, & SSRL Compatible styles available (MAXIV uses SPINE Standard Bases (e.g. B5-R)

The leading system for remote data collection at numerous beamlines around the world.

The Unipucks available from MiTeGen are made in America by the longest established puck producer in crystallography.
Recent Events
At MiTeGen, we sponsor and attend numerous educational events, conferences, and symposiums throughout the year. We believe in supporting researchers and our industry. Listed below are three events we recently attended!
The goal of this meeting was to foster a discussion of frontier problems in the fields of single particle cryo-EM and cryo electron tomography (cryoET). The organizers encouraged talks and posters to focus on challenging cases and technical advances required to overcome them, including sample preparation, optimizing data collection, innovations in image processing, etc...

It was hosted by Simons Electron Microscopy Center on October 24th, 2019 in New York, NY

We attended and sponsored this event.
PDSI 2019 featured workshops, exhibitions and sessions on structure and biophysics based drug design stories, cryoEM in a pharmaceutical setting, popular biophysics techniques and popular drug discovery trends.

Hosted by PSDI on November 3rd to 5th 2019 in Hinxton, Cambridgeshire, UK.

We attended and exhibited at the meeting. Thank you to all those who stopped by our MiTeGen table.

This symposium occurred at UMass Medical in Worcester, MA US. It was a one day event focused on practical aspects of Cryo-EM technique and included speakers and a panel discussion. The event was beneficial to both seasoned Cryo-EM users as well as those just getting started in Cryo-EM.

We attended and helped sponsor this event.
