Seeing Jazz - A Music Photography Business Roundtable

Calling all music photographers! Successful professionals Luciano Rossetti, Enid Farber, Harvey Willis, Lou Jones, Stuart Brinin and others who've done Seeing Jazz Master classes are among the featured panelists for a unique "Music Photography Business Roundtable," the Jazz Journalists Association's next session in its on-line photography series "Seeing Jazz," to be held Saturday, March 30, 12 noon Central Time | 1 pm ET.

The professional aspects of photographing music have become ever more challenging as today "everyone thinks they're a photographer," equipped with cell phones that are capable of print-level images. The true pro finds their images are too easy to appropriate, alter and use without credit or compensation; that restrictions are imposed by artists' managers and venues, limiting access, and that their high-level services may be undercut by amateurs. There is more to do about your work than point-and-shoot, more to know than the name of the publicist for a sought after star -- as will be discussed by award-winning practitioners of the craft including Luciano Rossetti (known for his ECM Records covers, among many publications), Stuart Brinin (SFJazz photographer), New York City-based Enid Farber, Boston-based Lou Jones and Harvey Tillis among several others who have shown images and discussed their careers in previous Seeing Jazz sessions. 

Hrayr Attarian will moderate a candid discussion of professional jazz photography that will not shy away from the nitty gritty, but suggest practical solutions to some of the issues anyone serious about their work is bound to confront. Questions will be welcome from registered attendees; this session of Seeing Jazz will be archived at the JJA's YouTube channel.
