Seeking Campus Input on Federal Funding Interests and Priorities

Each year, the Idaho State University Administration Council prepares a list of ISU research and program interests & priorities for Idaho’s federal Congressional delegation. The list is developed in two stages. First, faculty and staff are invited to suggest interests & priorities for consideration using this form. Up to 15 requests are selected for further consideration. Second, a request that moves forward is expanded into a 1-2 page concept paper with assistance from the ISU Office for Research. This selective process is guided by institutional strategy and current and emerging federal priorities.

ISU seeks preliminary requests in each of the following categories:

Programs of Importance

Programs of importance include formula grants or cooperative agreements that have a successful funding history or on-going support. Also, if there is a concern about continued federal funding for any ISU program, we need to know. It is important to protect successful and ongoing program funding.

Targeted Programs

ISU participates in several targeted programs that require ongoing federal support. These programs are typically described in annual Congressional Appropriations Reports. Appropriations report language makes it clear that federal funding is targeted to specific purposes, and sometimes, to specific entities who can accomplish those purposes.

Programs of Interest

Programs of interest do not have current funding, but are of significant interest to an ISU researcher or research team. An example might be an upcoming NASA mission where some particular emphasis in legislative language would help ISU be more competitive.

High Priority

High priority projects are of importance to ISU and typically do not have any current or known funding opportunity. These are usually based on our emerging expertise and capacity, and emerging community or societal issues.

If you have any questions regarding an idea, a concept, the process, etc., please contact the Office of the Vice President for Research, or@isu.edu and include “federal funding interest” in the subject line.
