2023 Wehman Award of Excellence

Award of Distinction

The Wehman Award of Excellence is named after Dr. Therese Wehman who was the Inaugural Recipient in 2016. Through her work as Director

of Graduate Programs in Early Intervention and Early Childhood Education at Elmhurst University, as well as her decades of service on the Illinois Interagency Council of Early Intervention as the Governor’s appointed Personnel Preparation Representative, Dr. Wehman has shaped both the landscape of the profession of Developmental Therapy as well as guided practitioners in the field in countless ways. The Wehman awarded of Excellence is awarded by the Illinois Developmental Therapy Association to a developmental therapist who has consistently exemplified excellence in their work with integrity and embodies our early intervention principles.

Qualifications
The following are the qualifications of someone who displays exemplary work in the field and should be considered for nomination.
  • Has been working as a Developmental Therapist for a minimum of 7 years
  • Families served by this DT report a high level of satisfaction 
  • Exemplifies best practices consistent with EI principles
  • Demonstrates a high level of passion in their work as a DT 
  • Provides service with a high level of integrity
  • Participates in leadership or advocacy roles in the field
