The AAP-CA2 office of State Government Affairs is seeking pediatricians in two key California Congressional districts where votes will be critical toward protecting Medicaid and CHIP from federal budget cuts. Please see the information below and complete This Form if interested.

The two Congressional districts are Rep. David Valadao (CA-22), and Rep. Jay Obernolte (CA-23) – these representatives will be key voices in the federal debate and now is the time to ensure they understand the impact these decisions will have on child health and pediatric practice in California. We are hoping to identify pediatrician constituents who can build rapport with their offices. Specifically, we are looking for one or a small number of pediatricians who live or practice in these districts who can commit to the following activities:

  • Reach out and request to meet with Reps. Valadao, and Obernolte to discuss how they can support children’s health in California.
  • Meet with these representatives or their staff as soon as possible.
  • Tailor and work with AAP staff to engage with local media, including, for example, authoring op-eds in key local publications or being available to speak with media (with AAP support).
  • Request follow-up meetings during the April recess (April 12-27).

National AAP staff can support this work with data, talking points, tailored advice for individual members of Congress, and more.

In addition, we anticipate opportunities for pediatricians to join members of Congress for press events, roundtables, town halls, briefings, and other events during district/state work periods. AAP staff will reach out as we learn of these opportunities.
