The Big Sky Community Housing Trust had a groundbreaking first year as an independent nonprofit that will propel its mission of improving the availability of affordable housing in the Big Sky community in 2021.
BSCHT's goal is to support the local economy and enhance the character of the community through the implementation of a variety of housing strategies. One strategy is to create deed-restricted homeownership opportunities for locals at subsidized rates. By this spring, BSCHT expects builders to complete MeadowView Condominiums, the community's first land trust development. Currently, all 52 MeadowView units are under contract by local, working families.
Additionally, BSCHT increases affordable rental opportunities for locals. BSCHT hopes to expand the number of rental units in the market by converting more vacation rentals into homes for the community's workforce. BSCHT is also exploring rental development opportunities with both public and private partners to build much needed workforce apartments.
