Self Determination Program?

What is the Self-Determination Program (SDP)?

Hello Beautiful Parents, Caregivers, Siblings & More - Who love and care for amazing Black Children, Youth & Adults experiencing Autism & Developmental differences.

It’s the founder Ardena, momma to a beautiful Black Boy on the Autism Spectrum.   Our Parenting Black Children’s (PBC) program is focused on serving Black/African American families. Our communities have and continue to experience racial trauma associated with disparities and deficits in systems of care that should be designed to provide equitable access to services.

What is the Self- Determination Program? The SDP and Person Centered Training provides individuals and their families with more freedom, control, and responsibility in choosing services and supports to help them meet their Individual Program Plan (IPP) objectives. This is the analogy I use: The Regional Center has 2 funding pots 1. Traditional program which is like a HMO and 2. SDP which is like a PPO insurance plan. The SDP allows for the family to choose its vendors for the services they are approved for and much more.

For example under the SDP my son receives Piano lessons under the Social Recreational service and Swimming lessons under the safety services. We chose a local minority owned small business for one service and a large nation-wide business for the other. My son is truly thriving and has decreased some anxiety and increased his confidence around water.

Take a look at the resources below. There are several ways to learn more about SDP. Join me every Wednesday for Virtual Drop in Hours (see flier) and look out for our SDP & Black Voices video to be released later this month.
