Reimbursement & Fringe Updates
12.2.21
Good Afternoon,

We want to bring your attention to two important updates:

Reimbursement Update

OPWDD has clarified the “Date of Service” for Individual Directed Goods and Services (IDGS) and Other Than Personal Services (OTPS). Consequently, this means, the "date of service" is not when an IDGS/OTPS reimbursement request is submitted, but rather when the FI (Springbrook) pays the reimbursement.

What does this update mean for you? Much like a tax year, your budget operates on a fiscal year that closes annually, holding expenses inside each year separately. This means that if the date the reimbursement is paid by Springbrook falls in the new budget year, the expense will be reflected in the new budget, potentially leaving services dollars from the previous budget unspent. Please consider this carefully and work with your team to plan for use of IDGS and OTPS, submitting reimbursement requests to capture the budget dollars intentionally. Let us know of any extenuating circumstances you may be facing. We’re in this together!
As an example, when a family enters an IDGS, OTPS, or FRR reimbursement into Wrenpay on 9/28, and the check for that reimbursement is sent on 10/02, that funding will come from October’s budget. Since approvals are not made daily, and reimbursement checks are sent on a weekly basis, all dates should be taken into consideration when being reimbursed for one of these services.
Fringe Update

We are thrilled to announce that the careful work of the coordinators and Springbrook's exceptional fiscal management have led to a reduction of the fringe rate applied to SDS budgets from 39% to 36% effective 1/1/2022! This reduction puts more services dollars at your fingertips - the decreased fringe rate could provide DSP raises or a reallocation of funds to a different area of interest. Reach out to your Broker and team to discuss a budget amendment.
As always, if you have any questions, please reach out to your coordinator or email selfdirection@springbrookny.org.

All of our best during this holiday season!
