Region 1, District 1: A project to repair the bridge carrying U.S. 20 (Lake Street) over Poplar Creek, Saint Charles and Liberty streets, in Elgin, begins March 17.

The work will initially require daily lane closures on U.S. 20 from east of Grace Street to west of Shales Parkway/Bluff City Boulevard. In early spring, U.S. 20 will be reduced to at least one lane in each direction in the work zone. The $27.4 million project, which consists of replacing the existing bridge decks, expansion joints and structural steel, resurfacing, installing new lighting, storm sewers and noise barriers, is anticipated to be completed later this year.

Region 4, District 7: Work is resuming on the final phase of the Fayette Avenue (U.S. 40, Illinois 33) reconstruction project in Effingham.

North of Fayette Avenue, the reconstruction of the southbound lanes of Henrietta Street continues. A raised median will be constructed from Fayette Avenue going south to Edgar Avenue. One lane of traffic will remain open in each direction on Henrietta Street from Jefferson Avenue to Edgar Avenue.

Started in 2023, the Fayette Avenue project consists of widening the existing four lanes from Illini Drive to Walnut Street and adding a middle turn lane from Henrietta Street to Walnut Street. Additional elements include upgrading storm sewers, constructing a multiuse path, adding ADA-compliant sidewalks, modernizing traffic signals, installing new lighting, and improving intersections and side streets. This $27.1 million project is expected to be completed this summer.
