Community Service: Selfless September Clothing Drive

Service Coordinator Rachel Santizo is thrilled about the response to Selfless September  ❤️  The lobby at the gym is overflowing with donations!
In her first solo mission Rachel has set out to arm the homeless population against the winter.  Salt Lake City gets cold, and she is doing all she can to help.

Rachel is still taking clothing and shoe donations. Please always remember to treat others as you want to be treated. If you donate items make sure they are clean
a nd in good condition.  Additional items needed: new socks, tarps, bottled water, wrapped food items, books, blankets, hats, gloves and toiletries.
You can bring your donations on the 18th or drop them at FTR: 789 West 1390 South.

Join her on  Sunday September 18th at noon @ Pioneer park.  The more volunteers, the better we can offer our service.  Please don't hesitate to come and spend even just one hour at this important event.

If you would like to volunteer or donate please contact Rachel Santizo 385-414-7174.
What better way to start the Holidays, by giving back. Thank YOU for all YOU do.

Fitness: Spartan Race Update and
TSC  Challenge

With dirty yet smiling faces, Team FTR completed the Spartan Race in August!  They covered 8 miles and 25 obstacles but most importantly, they did it together.  It was quickly agreed that such team efforts will become an annual tradition.  Every one who participated could feel how their time in the gym paid off, and they are eager to continue gaining in strength.

The Team's next test will be the the upcoming TSC: Tactical Strength Challenge.  On October 1st participants will be tested in three areas:  Deadlift, Pull-ups, and a grueling 5 minute snatch test.

These athletes have been training at Fit To Recover all summer long.  The gym holds a training class at 8:30 am on Saturday mornings.  With the TSC happening every 6 months, the next one will be in April!

Anyone interested in a new challenge is welcome to join us and work towards this exciting goal with Team FTR.  On any given day you can choose to grow stronger.  It could be today!
Creative Arts: Recovery Day Painting and
Upcoming Poetry Reading

Painting: Artists at the September 10 Recovery Day jumped in to help paint three large scale paintings, and the results were thrilling! Curious folks stood by and watched as the art came to life before their eyes.  In the spirit of community and service, these pieces will be donated to the Volunteers of America Detox Facility downtown. After visiting the building a few months ago and finding the walls bare, FTR's Art Director Sarah Kappos could not resist. She will be happy to bring some color and life to those who enter the VOA in hopes of a new life.

Poetry: The River Writers of FTR will be presenting their stories at an open-mic night September 24th from 6:30-8:30 pm at Rimini Coffee downtown.  These brave souls will stand and speak their words to an intimate gathering of fellow poets.  Participants for the next session of River Writing have been invited to get a taste of what lies in store for them as they enter their own flow of inspiration.  For details on the next session of River Writing please email Sarah at skappos@hotmail.com or find us on Facebook

Nutrition: Upcoming Harmon's Workshop and Taste-Testing FTR's New Recovery Bars

Workshop: Food to Recover is excited to present a nutrition workshop on Saturday, September 24th from 11:30am-1:00pm. The workshop will be hosted by Harmon's at City Creek (135 E. 100 S.) and will include a grocery tour and food demo/tasting that will help participants build smart shopping skills. Please join us!

Recovery Bars: Free samples of the new FTR Recovery Bar were gobbled up by folks at the September 10 Recovery Day sponsored by USARA (Utah Support Advocates for Recovery Awareness).

Formulated by the Food To Recover state-registered dietitians, FTR's Cherry Oatmeal Recovery Bar includes Organic Almond Butter, Pea Protein, Organic Coconut Nectar, Cherries, Whole Rolled Oats, Organic Whole Grain Quinoa, among other healthy ingredients. The bars hold 10 grams of protein per serving, have no artificial flavors, are GMO (genetically modified organism) free and Gluten free. The ingredients were selected based on peer reviewed scientific literature to help those in recovery sustain their health and reduce cravings for sugar and caffeine. The nutrition bar production is part of FTR's entrepreneurial spirit and it will add to its already diverse funding sources.

To order your FTR Recovery Bars (box of 12 bars for $26), email us at recoverybars@fit2recover.org. All proceeds benefit FTR. Also, feel free to email the FTR dietitians at food2recover@gmail.com with any questions or to set up a one-on-one nutrition consultation FREE of charge.
