On September 13, 2016, the School Board approved a rezone for Longwood Elementary School, which will reopen to PreK-5 students in August 2017. Due to a need for space for increasing student enrollment, the decision was made to renovate and reopen Longwood Elementary School. Not only will a well-loved school community once again serve the students of Seminole County Public Schools in Longwood, the move is cost efficient, as the renovation budget of $6 million is less costly than building an entirely new school.
The Longwood Steering Committee, consisting of community and educational stakeholders selected by the City of Longwood and District, will meet bimonthly to facilitate the process of reopening the school. The goal of the committee is to establish clear and open lines of communication with the Longwood Community and the Board as the plans for reopening the school are developed. The committee held its first meeting on September 13, 2016.
The first public meeting for rezoning was held on October 19, 2016. A joint meeting of the Steering Committee and the second public meeting for rezoning is scheduled for November 9, 2016 at 5:30 PM in the Board Room. The renovation project will completely refurbish the campus, originally acquired in 1958, and subsequently remodeled in 1995. The goal of the project is to improve interior finishes and learning environments including ceilings, floors, lighting and wall surfaces, along with the replacement of HVAC equipment, repairs to roofing systems, and providing accessible accommodations and classroom technology upgrades. Work is set to begin soon so the school is ready for students at the start of school in August 2017. The Design Builder selected by the School Board appointed committee, approved by the School Board at the October 18 Board meeting, is Pirtle Construction Co., along with the architectural services of KMA Design Group and Borrelli & Partners

The principal for Longwood Elementary will be selected in the next few months to facilitate the renovation process, order instructional resources and materials, participate in the rezoning process and hire the faculty for 2017-2018. This exciting project will come to fruition when students once again occupy their newly renovated Longwood Elementary School

Educational Equity - Notice of Nondiscrimination
The Educational Equity Administrator for Seminole County Public Schools has the responsibility of assuring compliance with the educational equity requirements by providing technical expertise, monitoring activities or programs related to compliance, and responding to equity complaints.
