Lyman High’s Culinary Program is Really Cooking
Recently, Lyman High School’s Culinary 4 students received new custom chef jackets courtesy of the program’s new partner, Chef Erik Youngs known as the “VooDoo Chef,” is the Culinary Director at Erwin Technical College in Tampa. The VooDoo Chef Foundation promotes high school culinary programs around Central Florida, hosting several competitions and providing scholarships.
Chef Brevoort, a culinary instructor at Lyman High is also currently featured on several billboards in the area that were provided by Billy Floyd of the Kitchen Killaz, a musical group that highlights Chefs and restaurants throughout the Orlando area. The Kitchen Killaz will be helping Lyman High promote their fall pie fundraiser and has even invited Chef Brevoort to make an appearance on their weekly podcast to talk all things Lyman High Culinary.
We are so thankful for the incredible array of opportunities our students have because of partnerships like these!

Wekiva Elementary Started a Trend
We thought the days of popularity for the beloved "flat" characters may have been over, but we were proven wrong!
Flat Serita (Our lovely cardboard cut-out of Superintendent Beamon) was at our recent Wellness event, and some of the teachers at Wekiva Elementary decided she needed to take a trip and have some fun with the students and staff at Wekiva.
They even made us a little video to watch her adventure unfold. In fact, we were so inspired by the fun she had, we decided she needed to visit other schools to see how their creativity would inspire the adventures of "Flat Serita." Stay tuned...this is going to be a whole lot of fun!

Lawton Elementary's Groundbreaking Ceremony
This past week, Lawton Elementary had their Groundbreaking Ceremony for their New Intermediate Learning Center! The two-story-building will include a new dining room, a stage, and ten classrooms! We are so excited about the work happening at Lawton Elementary. This project is funded by the penny tax and will allow this campus which has served Oviedo for over 100 years a much needed renovation.
Did you know that Lawton Elementary started as a one room schoolhouse?
| |
Another fun aspect of yesterday's groundbreaking were the families who joined us representing FIVE generations of Lawton students. We thought that was very special!
