What's Cool in Our Schools

Lake Howell High's PTSA Introduces the Gratitude Wall

The PTSA of Lake Howell High School have a message to share..."Turns out, being thankful can have many positive health effects. Studies show practicing gratitude can lead to more intimate and connected relationships, less depression, more motivation and engagement, and better overall mental well-being."

In true leadership fashion, Principal Howard is the first contributor and expressed his appreciation for the LHHS community.

Students and staff are encouraged to stop by and share what they are grateful for on any of the sticky notes. The Gratitude Wall is located across from Student Services in building one.

We look forward to seeing this wall in a one month! What an incredible idea...we are GRATEFUL for all of our PTA/PTSA organizations that support our schools, teachers, students and staff.

The Power of Finding Your "e"

Lawton Chiles Middle School Students Hit the Stage

Students in Mrs. T's Theater classes at Lawton Chiles Middle School worked on their first cold read. This tied to their first vocabulary unit in Theatre 1 and Theatre 2,and connected to audition preparation for Theatre 3 kids. Plus, watching their peers perform was a great exercise in theatre etiquette!

Red Bug Elementary School Uses a Different Kind of Buddy System

At Red Bug Elementary, Mrs. Wayne's Bugs are working hard in science and math! Students love math centers and reading with buddies. Afterall, learning is always fun, especially when you can do it with friends!

Seminole County is Built on Relationships

On Sunday, we had the pleasure of attending the annual back-to-school give-away with our friends at the Sikh Society of Central Florida and Khalsa Aid USA.

We were able to speak with so many of our students and their families. We heard from students ranging in age from Kindergarten to SCPS graduates now in college. It was an afternoon that filled our hearts and made us smile. Nothing is better than getting to be in the community with the families and students we serve.

Additionally, they donated over 300 backpacks filled with school supplies for our Families in Need (FIN) program so every child in our community has the tools they need to succeed in the classroom.

We have an incredible community in Seminole County, and we are so thankful to be a part of it.

New Laws Regarding Parental Consent Information for the 2023-2024 School Year

Deviation from Legal Name Consent

Per Rule 6A-1.0955(8)(m), F.A.C., Education Records, school districts are required to develop a form to obtain parental consent to use any deviation or nickname from the child’s legal name in school.

If you would like for your child to be able to use a name aside from their legal given name on any of our campuses, we will ask for you to complete the consent form titled “Parental Authorization for Deviation from Student’s Legal Name Form” which will be found in your Skyward Family Access. Please include all variations that are approved on your form.

Parental Consent-School Sponsored Events, Activities or Supplemental Programs

SCPS has developed a plan to adhere to the requirements set forth by the Florida Department of Education’s Board Rule 6A-10.089, Section (5) which requires parent or guardian notification and permission forms for all school-sponsored events, activities, and supplemental programs.

Over the next few days, weeks, and months, teachers, sponsors, and administrators will be sending notification and permission forms for any school-sponsored events, activities, or supplemental programs your child plans to attend. Please keep your eye out for these forms so that your child is able to participate.
