Wicklow's Fifth Grade Scientists

Our 5th-grade scientists have been hard at work in the lab, exploring the fascinating systems of the human body. During this engaging lesson, students identified and described different organs while learning about the important roles each one plays in keeping the body healthy and functioning properly.

Through hands-on activities and investigation, students deepened their understanding of how the body works and how its systems work together. Experiences like these help bring science to life and encourage curiosity, critical thinking, and discovery.

It is always exciting to see our Explorers actively engaged in learning and exploring the wonders of the human body!

The SCPS Physics Bus Visits Wekiva Elementary

Our 5th-grade students had an electrifying day when the SCPS Physics Bus rolled onto campus!

During this exciting visit, students explored the world of electricity and light through hands-on experiments, glowing demonstrations, and interactive learning experiences that sparked their curiosity.

From lighting up circuits to discovering how energy travels, our young scientists engaged in activities that helped bring important physics concepts to life. Opportunities like this make STEM learning memorable and encourage students to ask questions, experiment, and explore science!

Thank you to our wonderful SCPS Physics Bus team for providing such a fun and engaging experience for our students. Who knows, we may have a few future engineers and physicists in the making!

Lake Mary High's Marine Science Students Travel to Pigeon Key

Lake Mary High's science students recently traveled to Pigeon Key in Key West for an unforgettable hands-on learning experience.

During the trip, students explored Florida’s unique marine ecosystems while learning about coral reef conservation, coastal engineering, and the importance of protecting our ocean resources. Through field investigations and interactive lessons, students were able to connect what they learn in the classroom to real-world environmental challenges.

Experiencing one of Florida’s most iconic marine locations allowed students to deepen their understanding of marine science while building curiosity and strengthening their scientific thinking.

Thank you to our teachers and staff for making this incredible learning opportunity possible and providing students with such a meaningful educational experience. Safe travels, Rams!

Midway Elementary's Majestic Win at MA Dance Competition

Midway Elementary's Majestic Dance Team recently showcased their “Midway Magic” at the MA Dance Competition held at Seminole High School. The Majestic dancers have worked incredibly hard all year, preparing to compete against elementary schools from across Florida, and their dedication truly paid off.

Layer Elementary's School Resource Deputy named SCPS Deputy of the Quarter

2025 Dairy Farmers Florida Football Honors

Calling All Dividend Volunteers

Living On My Own, a financial literacy program presented in collaboration with our partners at UF/IFAS Extension Seminole County, is being presented this spring at six area middle and high schools. We are grateful for the support of our Dividends, community partners, and staff who assist with hosting these events.

Living On My Own is a hands-on, real-life simulation where students learn about money management and consumer choices that can impact their future. In this activity, students role-play with an assigned 25-year-old identity (i.e. married or single, children, or without children), an occupation, and a monthly income. Students visit tables and make spending decisions on transportation, housing, insurance, rent/mortgage, utilities, etc. Stations for the simulation represent real life businesses, and volunteers assist students in understanding the costs involved and making informed choices. Please select one of the following options to register for your two-hour volunteer timeslot.

This is Shannon Stokes' 12th year as a proud SCPS principal, currently serving at Sabal Point Elementary.

When asked about her favorite part of being a principal, she shared, "building relationships with students, staff, and families. I love seeing students grow, celebrating their successes, and supporting teachers in creating a positive, engaging school environment."

Interesting fact about Principal Stokes: She has lived and worked in Seminole County her entire life (54 years). She has also had the wonderful opportunity to teach at the elementary school where she attended (Goldsboro).

After-School CTE Courses

Seminole County Public Schools is excited to once again offer After‑School Career & Technical Education (CTE) courses for the 2026–2027 school year. These programs provide high school students the opportunity to explore hands‑on career fields while earning high school credit. The courses are open to all rising SCPS 9th-12th-grade students.

Course requests for introductory levels will open on March 24, but families can begin planning now by viewing the CTE Course Information Guide. Classes will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3:30 - 5:30 PM, beginning the second week of school in August. No transportation is provided.

Understanding FFAA vs. FAFSA

We want to remind students and families about the difference between the Florida Financial Aid Application (FFAA) and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).


• FFAA is used to apply for state financial aid, including the Bright Futures Scholarship.
• FAFSA is completed for federal financial resources, such as grants and loans.


Important: If you are applying for Bright Futures, you must submit your application through the FFAA website floridastudentfinancialaidsg.org.

SCPS Foundation Senior Scholarship Application

The Foundation's Senior Scholarship application is now live! It will award over 45+ scholarships to the Seminole County Public Schools Class of 2026 this spring, with recipients from all 10 high schools! Foundation scholarships range in value, and while most are available to all SCPS High Schools, some are specific to Hagerty, Lake Brantley, Lyman, and Seminole. Some opportunities focus on Areas of Study such as Trade Programs, Education, Nursing, the Arts, Engineering, and STEM fields, or to students who’ve participated in athletic programs, arts programs, extracurricular activities, and community service. Other factors are considered, such as students who have overcome challenges, experienced homelessness, or demonstrated financial need.

SCPS seniors can begin their senior scholarship application at the FSCPS AwardSpring site. The deadline to apply is Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Review detailed scholarship descriptions at FSCPS.AwardSpring.com.

SCPS Retired Educator: Carrie Frye

When envisioning a champion for education, it would be difficult not to immediately think of Carrie Frye. She was an educator with 48 years of experience, encompassing positions as a teacher, consultant, primary specialist, assistant principal, and guidance counselor.

Mrs. Frye began her journey after receiving her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Louisiana. She would later obtain a Master’s Degree from the University of Arkansas and her Counselor Certification from Troy State University.

Her career was extensive and diverse. She taught 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th grades as a classroom teacher in Colorado, Florida, Georgia, and Missouri. She served as the Assistant Director of the Army Education Center in Korat, Thailand, where she wrote curriculum and hired teachers for military men preparing for the GED. Mrs. Frye was a Consultant/ Teacher for the Parents Cooperative American School in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where her achievements included authoring an enrichment activity guide for grades K-6 and organizing an annual campout at a desert oasis for 180 third-grade students, complete with science-related activities. She was also an Assistant Principal (K-6) at the North Campus American School in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where she oversaw all facets of an on-site daycare, implemented a lunchtime reading program to provide teacher release time, and increased visibility of the fine arts program.

In 1984, Mrs. Frye continued her career by joining SCPS as an Elementary Curriculum Specialist. She established a school-wide publishing lab, coordinated a district-wide Young Authors Conference, designed an enrichment program, and screened primary students for all exceptional education programs, among her accomplishments. Then, in 1992, Mrs. Frye accepted the position of Grade 5 Alternative Education Teacher, a role she held for 6 years. During that time, she developed and piloted a self-contained dropout prevention program (4th-5th) and helped fund it through a grant she had written.

Mrs. Frye closed out her career in 2019 after serving as a Guidance Counselor with SCPS for 21 years, during which, in addition to her standard duties, she prepared curriculum for school resource officers and wrote district-level character education lessons correlated to all disciplines.

Her career credits are numerous and include Teacher of the Year at English Estates, Eastbrook Elementary, and Goldsboro Elementary Magnet School. Mrs. Frye was a Seminole County District Teacher of the Year finalist and was elected the Seminole County Elementary Counselor of the Year. She was also awarded the U. S. Army Outstanding Civilian Employee and the Parents Cooperative School Employee of the Year (Saudi Arabia). Mrs. Frye is in the Key Women Educator Society (FL) Hall of Fame and was Phi Delta Kappa Central Florida Chapter’s Educator of the Year. She is a Sara B. Ferguson Award Recipient on behalf of the Key Women Educator Society (FL), a Jesslyn McBride Leadership Seminar Graduate, and is recognized by the Florida Council on Elementary Education. She received an international award this year representing Delta Kappa Gamma Women’s Educational Society.

Mrs. Frye has been a member and served as an officer in several professional organizations, many of which she remains active in today. These organizations include the Florida Council on Elementary Education (President), Seminole County Counselor Association (President), American Association of University Women, P. E. O. Chapter GG, and Delta Kappa Gamma Society International (President). She has been an active member of the Seminole County Retired Educators and will be sworn in as President of the Florida Educators Association in May.

Surprisingly, Mrs. Frye finds time for community involvement, serving as the Director Emeritus of the Winter Park Playhouse. She also loves to volunteer for the Heathrow, Winter Park, and DeLand Art Festivals. There is never a dull moment, according to her loving husband Bill. Mrs. Frye has more chapters to write and lives to touch in the field of education!
