What's Cool in Our Schools

Seminole High Students Get Hands-on with Forensics

Seminole High School's Health Academy biomedical science students got a hands-on look at real-world forensics this week. They toured the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office and explored the Forensics Laboratory Services Division, learning how science solves crimes and impacts our community. Thank you, SCSO, for your continued partnership and for helping our students see the real-world applications for their coursework.

Wicklow Elementary Global Pathways Magnet Students Get Business Savvy

The amazing third-graders at Wicklow Elementary Global Pathways Magnet put their creativity and entrepreneurial spirit to work at their recent Trade Fair. As part of their social studies unit on supply and demand, students designed their own goods and services, set up shop, and experienced the excitement of buying, selling, and trading.

From handmade crafts to clever services, their booths were full of innovation and energy. It was a fantastic hands-on way to bring learning to life, and they had a blast doing it!

Lawton Elementary is Cooking with Creativity

At Lawton Elementary, Mrs. Boyd’s second graders had a hands-on lesson about the central idea, and then baking their relevant details.

Students loved seeing how parts of stories come together through this innovative lesson! We love our incredible teachers who make learning so much fun!

In the Spotlight

We are so happy to share the story of Brenda Whitaker, named the 2024 School Crossing Guard of the Year. Ms. Whitaker serves Carillon Elementary and Hagerty High School, and was recognized with the FOX 35 Care Force Award this week! While crossing guards are employees of the Seminole County Sheriff's Office, they play a significant role in the SCPS family, and we are grateful for all they do each day to keep our students, staff, and families safe as they travel to and from school. SCPS Principal Spotlight

At SCPS, we are dedicated to celebrating our schools and the exceptional leaders who guide them.

Principal Mickey Reynolds - Lake Mary High School

This is Dr. Mickey Reynolds' 13th year as an SCPS principal, currently serving at Lake Mary High School. When asked about her favorite part of being a principal, she replied, "I absolutely love being a principal. I have an incredible staff and amazing students, and I learn something new from them every day. For me, it's all about supporting the teachers and students and encouraging them to be their best selves."

A unique and heartwarming fact about Dr. Reynolds, her ties to Lake Mary High run three generations deep. Her father was the school’s first principal, she later attended as a student, and now serves as principal herself. Most recently, her daughter graduated with the Class of 2025. It’s safe to say Dr. Reynolds knows Lake Mary High like the back of her hand!

Dr. Reynolds, thank you for the lasting impact your family has made at Lake Mary High. We’re honored to have you leading with such dedication and heart. Your legacy is an inspiration to the entire SCPS community.
