Midway Elementary's First Graders Add Some Sweetness to Their Math Fun
First-grade students in Mrs. Williams' class at Midway Elementary School of the Arts learned how to collect and organize data into categories, and to represent their results using tally marks and pictographs.
To bring math to life, students participated in a colorful, hands-on jellybean activity where they practiced sorting, counting, and recording their data. Working together, they discovered which colors appeared most and least.
What a tasty and engaging way to keep our students excited about learning!

Carillon Elementary Students Travel to Hagerty High's Pumpkin Patch
Carillon Elementary’s ESE classrooms recently visited the Pumpkin Patch at Hagerty High School for a fun-filled fall field trip.
Students had a wonderful time exploring the patch, listening to story time, picking out their own pumpkins, and traveling through a festive fall maze.
The visit provided a hands-on learning experience and plenty of smiles as students engaged with their peers and teachers outside the classroom.
Thank you to Hagerty High for hosting such a spooktacular event for Carillon Elementary!

Walker Elementary's Muffins with the Mayor Event
Walker Elementary welcomed Oviedo Mayor Megan Sladek for a special Muffins with the Mayor event! Students participated in a panel, asking thoughtful social studies questions to learn how academic benchmarks connect to her work in the local community.
The event was a wonderful opportunity for students to engage with local leadership, ask meaningful questions, and see firsthand how learning connects to real-world community impact.
Thank you, Mayor Sladek, for taking the time to visit Walker Elementary, inspire our students, and show them the value of civic engagement and community involvement. Go Hurricanes!

Markham Woods Middle School Biomechatronics Students Collaborate with Apopka Middle School on Real-World Innovation Project
Markham Woods Middle's Biomechatronics Capstone students recently hosted a collaboration session with STEM students from Apopka Middle School. This continues their work with Project Invent, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to empower students with 21st-century skills to become fearless, compassionate problem solvers by inventing technologies that address real-world challenges.
During the session, students from both schools shared ideas, discussed community issues, and began developing plans for innovative prototypes designed to help real-world clients overcome specific challenges. This partnership not only strengthens students’ technical and creative thinking skills but also fosters empathy, teamwork, and a sense of purpose. All essential traits of tomorrow’s changemakers.
Together, these young innovators are proving that middle school students can make a real impact on the world through innovation and compassion.

SCPS High School Principals Take a Field Trip to Seminole State College to Connect About Student Opportunities
SCPS High School Principals participated in a collaborative site visit to Seminole State College, strengthening the partnership between the district and its learning partner for career success.
During the visit, principals engaged in meaningful discussions with SSC leaders on topics such as recruitment, dual enrollment, scholarships, honors, and grants, all aimed at expanding opportunities for students. The day also included a delicious lunch and an informative tour of the impressive facilities.
This event highlighted the shared commitment of SCPS and SSC to ensuring every student is prepared for college, career, and lifelong success.

Jackson Heights Middle School's Resource Officer Promoted to Sergeant with the Oviedo Police Department
SCPS would like to congratulate Gabe Roberts, the School Resource Officer at Jackson Heights Middle School, on being promoted to Sergeant with the Oviedo Police Department!
The Seminole County Sherrif's Office (SCSO) Department of School Safety & Security presented Sergeant Roberts with a plaque highlighting his nine years as a School Resource Officer with the Oviedo Police Department, and his assistance in fulfilling SCSO's mission to keep the most vulnerable safe.
Due to Sergeant Roberts' promotion, he will be transitioning out of the schools. While this is a bittersweet moment, we are immensely proud and grateful for Sergeant Roberts! You are greatly appreciated, and we wish you the very best.

SCPS invites you to the 2025 Transition fair! This event is for families of all students with disabilities who have an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or Section 504 Plan, in grades K-12, who want information on a path to support their child's journey through school and beyond. The resources provided by community agencies at the Transition Fair help families and students plan their future as they transition to adult life, educational, and/or work environments.
