What's Cool in Our Schools

Winter Springs High School Public Service Academy Visits Hurricane Hunters

Students from the Winter Springs High School Public Service Academy took a trip to the Sanford Orlando Airport to learn about emergency operations logistics, communication, and more during events like hurricanes or other natural disasters and were able to tour the Hurricane Hunter airplanes.

The Public Service Academy is dedicated to preparing students for post-secondary education and impactful careers in public service, while providing students with a well-rounded education encompassing three distinctive program pathways: Criminal Justice Operations, Emergency Planning and Response, and Principles of Teaching.

Sabal Point Elementary Hosts Market Day

Third graders at Sabal Point Elementary participated in a fun and engaging "Market Day" event this week. Students are encouraged to be creative and show off their business savvy by setting up shops to sell products they have made, or they outsource. This is a wonderful, hands-on approach to learning about commerce, communication, and confidence.

Idyllwilde Elementary Future Ready Academy Preps Second Graders for Surgery

This week, second grade students became surgeons who had to operate on words and numbers along with using their imagination to create a model of their blood.

Students had so much fun dressing as doctors and getting in their practice on vocabulary, math, and science.

Congratulations to our Project SEARCH Graduates

This week, our Student Support Services department recognized our class of 23-24 Project SEARCH interns. These 10 young adults are embarking on a new journey called employment. They called themselves the “Hang 10” group. They aimed to achieve excellence in everything they did, pushing themselves to reach their goals with a laid-back and confident attitude, just like a surfer riding a wave with skill and grace. Without the continued support of our community members, stakeholders like AdventHealth Orlando and Vocational Rehabilitation, our dedicated school board, and families, we would not have the success we have.

As our partnerships continue to grow, we are confident that together, we will continue to create opportunities and build a more inclusive and supportive environment for individuals of all abilities. #EmploymentForAll

Congratulations to the 2023-2024 Community Ambassador Program Graduates

The Community Ambassador Program is an opportunity for community members to get a behind-the-scenes look into the various facets that make our school district-run and what it takes to become an A-rated, academically high-performing public school district.

Ambassadors learn about operational needs, including topics such as district budgeting, school safety, transportation, career and technical education, and choice opportunities, as well as what it takes to make the school day happen for more than 63,000 students.

The participation of our community ambassadors signifies their commitment to learning about Seminole County Public Schools and their recognition that it takes all of us working together to be successful. We are so thankful for the time these individuals have invested in learning about our district, and we look forward to engaging with them to gather feedback and thoughts on future initiatives.
