Goldsboro Elementary Students' Hands-On Energy Form Exploration

Over the past two days, the dedicated fifth grade teachers at Goldsboro Elementary organized engaging hands-on stations to review different forms of energy.

On the first day, students explored chemical, mechanical, and thermal energy. The second day focused on sound and light energy.

Winter Springs Elementary's Spooky Reading Session

This week, kindergarten students enjoyed the story Spookley the Square Pumpkin. To extend the learning, they designed their own pumpkins and created a fun square pumpkin snack.

This hands-on activity helped bring the story to life and sparked creativity in our youngest learners.

Crystal Lake Elementary's "Quiz, Quiz, Trade" Collaborative Learning Activity

At Crystal Lake Elementary School, Mrs. Spikes’ students are using the collaborative learning strategy “Quiz, Quiz, Trade” to identify and explain the main story elements in a text.

This interactive activity combines music, movement, collaboration, and most importantly, reading!

Students are not only strengthening their comprehension skills but also discovering how much fun learning can be through engaging, hands-on experiences.

Casselberry Elementary Students Celebrate their Principal with a Festive Pumpkin Patch

Welcome to Principal May’s Pumpkin Patch! In honor of Principal’s Month, students and staff at Casselberry Elementary came together to decorate pumpkins to celebrate their "commander-in-chief" Principal May! This fun and creative activity was a way to show appreciation for all that Mrs. May does to support and lead the school community.

Layer Elementary Kindergartener's Explore Physical Changes in Science

Mrs. Kitchen’s kindergarten class, at Layer Elementary, recently embarked upon a hands-on science challenge focusing on physical changes. The students were given a piece of paper and asked to make a physical change by cutting, tearing, crumpling, smashing, or rolling it.

They shared how the shape of the paper can be altered through these different actions, deepening their understanding of physical changes. This interactive activity brought their learning to life and perfectly captured the spirit of “Adventure Awaits” through hands-on exploration.

We can already see a wonderful "change" taking place at Layer Elementary...our students are getting smarter and smarter by the second! Go Lynx!

Seminole High Theatre Company Presents "The Play That Goes Wrong"

Chaos, comedy, and complete mayhem, our school’s version of The Play That Goes Wrong, had it all, and it was amazing to watch! I got the pleasure to watch this amazing play, put on by Seminole High School Theatre Company, and take pictures too. From the actors to the amazing set, this play was absolutely perfect! From the pictures, it is blatantly obvious that these amazing actors were able to drop their personalities and fully embrace their character, which brought us, the audience, even deeper into the fun. I have never seen an audience laugh as much as this one did and I would encourage anyone to go see this wonderful show!

Indian Trails Middle School's SRO Named Deputy of the Quarter

Congratulations are in order for Deputy Jusino, the school resource deputy at Indian Trails Middle School. She has been named "Deputy of the Quarter" by the Seminole County Sherriff's Office! Deputy Jusino continues to keep the safety of our staff, and students her top priority each and every day.

Deputy Jusino, we cannot thank you enough for your ongoing commitment to the safety of our students and staff. You are an integral part of our SCPS team, and we appreciate all that you do for our community.

Lyman High School's Young Men of Excellence Program: A Beacon of Leadership and Service

The Young Men of Excellence (YMOE) program at Lyman High School continues to make a powerful impact both on campus and throughout the Altamonte Springs and Longwood communities.

These dedicated young men have embraced their roles as leaders, mentors, and role models, actively participating in service projects that uplift those around them.

Notably, YMOE partnered with the Sleep in Heavenly Peace program and Roston Bullard Lodge #708 PHA F&AM to build beds for children in need.

This event highlighted their commitment to compassion and community engagement. From organizing food drives and promoting mental health awareness to cleaning up stretches of Ronald Reagan Boulevard and hosting neighborhood events, their efforts inspire a culture of service and unity. As their teacher, Mr. Bernard Knight, shares, “The unity they bring to the Lyman High School campus extends into their neighborhoods, creating a sense of shared responsibility and mutual respect.”

Casselberry Police Department Celebrates Walk to School Day with Casselberry Elementary School

Casselberry Elementary School welcomed officers from the Casselberry Police Department for their annual Walk to School Day event.

Students, families, staff, and community partners came together to promote safe walking habits and celebrate the power of connection. The event was more than just a morning walk. It was an opportunity to strengthen the bond between local law enforcement and the school community.

Thank you to the Casselberry Police Department for their continued support and engagement. Their presence reinforces the strong partnership between our schools and community and encourages our students, the future leaders of tomorrow.

UF/IFAS Partners with SCPS to Equip Students with Real-World Skills

The University of Florida/Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) Seminole County Extension is a wonderful partner in education with SCPS. UF/IFAS provides research-based knowledge and educational programs that enhance our students understanding of practical information in areas of financial literacy, agriculture, and more. 

With the contributions of UF/IFAS Seminole County, our Dividend Volunteers support Healthy Hands, Living on My Own, and Growing Gardens. These past two months, UF/IFAS Seminole County Extension has hosted and partnered with us to provide the training needed to hundreds of volunteers!

This year marks Principal Christine Sharpe's 7th year as a principal with SCPS and her 26th year with SCPS, currently serving at Bentley Elementary School.

When asked about her favorite part of being a principal, she shared "I love supporting students and teachers by finding joy in each and every day. Seeing the smiles on students’ faces is the highlight of each day!"

Fun fact about Principal Sharpe, she enjoys kayaking in the beautiful lakes and rivers throughout Central Florida.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Principal Sharpe for her outstanding leadership and 25+ years of dedicated service to Seminole County Public Schools. Her commitment to fostering a positive, joyful learning environment continues to make a lasting impact on the students, staff, and families of Bentley Elementary and beyond.

SCPS invites you to the 2025 Transition fair! This event is for families of all students with disabilities who have an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or Section 504 Plan, in grades K-12, who want information on a path to support their child 's journey through school and beyond. The resources provided by community agencies at the Transition Fair help families and students plan their future as they transition to adult life, educational, and/or work environments. All SCPS Seniors are invited to Decision Day at Seminole State's Sanford/Lake Mary Campus on Friday, Nov. 7, 2025. Transportation and lunch are provided. Permission slips are due to school counselors by Friday, Oct. 31.

Attendees will tour the Raider Center athletic facility, enjoy games, photo ops, and free food while learning about the College's 200+ academic and career programs, scholarships and ways to pay for college. Join us for Decision Day and see how you can Go State. Go Far.

Seminole County Animal Services

Seminole County Animal Services is experiencing severe overcrowding and is currently operating at 151% capacity. With space stretched thin, kennels are being doubled up or divided, crates are stacked in walkways to fit more animals, and some pets have had to be boarded off site. During this time, all adoptions are being sponsored.

Families unable to adopt can still help by fostering an animal. Fostering eases overcrowding and helps socialize the pet in a home. High school students who decide to foster will have the opportunity to earn Bright Futures community service hours.
