Attendance Matters

What's Cool in Our Schools

Midway Second Graders Experience a Super-Sized, Superhero Lesson

Looking for a fun and engaging way to reinforce learning benchmarks, Midway 2nd grade teachers created a mini room transformation called Super Solvers to review two-digit subtraction using number lines and hundred charts.

When entering the classroom, students received superhero masks, a superhero bracelet, and a coloring page that read, “I can do hard things”. After assembling for Morning Meeting where they received encouragement from Mr. Kid President on what it

means to be a hero in your school and community, students created their superhero name and displayed it on a name tent. To create a positive math mindset, students were provided with superhero-themed items and positive affirmations to boost their confidence and make the learning experience more enjoyable. Midway teachers aim to

foster a sense of community and empower students to recognize their heroic qualities.

Students began their review by competing in a team-based challenge on a Super Solvers board game. Students displayed teamwork to solve the math problems on each slide. Each team that answered correctly rolled two dice and their difference counted as the number of spaces they were able to move forward. Center rotations consisted of the

following: Word Problems at the teacher table, Hulk Smash, Spidey Subtraction, Color by Code, and a fluency subtraction worksheet.

Middle School Students Explore College and Career Opportunities

The Young Men of Distinction from Teague Middle School traveled to the University of Central Florida to experience college life firsthand and explore college and career readiness.

The students were asked to research university requirements and then select a potential career based on their interests. They had great questions and really enjoyed this experience.

Carillon Elementary Brings Back Popular Space Teams

Carillon Elementary is focusing on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM).

Students in 2nd-5th grade are so excited that the very popular Space Teams initiative is back for the second half of this year.

Students can choose a topic that interests them and attend a class with others who share that interest.

Teachers, volunteers, and community members all come together to teach the young Comets, and students meet monthly to learn new skills.

The Foundation for Seminole County Public Schools Provides Support for the Arts

Inspired by Art, a program of The Foundation for Seminole County Public Schools, is committed to supporting the visual and performing arts programs within our schools and will be distributing more than $120,000 to support arts enrichment for all students.

A major part of this initiative is distributing checks to each school in the district to support their arts programs. We know that the cost of all school supplies has increased, including art supplies, so our funding this year includes an increase in our school arts checks from $50,000 to $60,000.

School checks can be used for any visual or performing art programs such as drawing or pottery supplies, musical instruments, theater costumes, TV production equipment, etc.

In addition to the checks distributed to every school in the district, The Foundation will support numerous other district-wide needs during the 2023-2024 year, including:

  • Classroom Art Grants
  • Elementary Music Festival
  • All County Orchestra, Band and Chorus
  • Marching Band Festival
  • AP Art Supplies
  • Spring Art Show Awards
  • Thespian Dues
  • Thespian District Competition
  • Leadership Seminole Video Contest Awards
  • Florida School Music Association dues for every school
  • Young People’s Concert field trip
