SCPS Celebrates Literacy Week!
Celebrate Literacy Week, Florida! is designed to raise awareness about the importance of reading and to inspire Florida's students and families to make reading part of their daily routines.
This year's theme was "Believe in Your "Shelf," Building Resiliency Through Reading.

Seminole High Students Use Storytelling to Unite Cultures
The "I Learn America" project uses youth-led storytelling to engage schools and communities to recognize the hope, complexity, and humanity of immigrant youth.
English Language Learners and Immigrant students at Seminole High School shared their stories and participated in activities for their ELA class. The outcome of this project will be a book they publish that shares their unique stories.

Millennium Middle School Students Partner with Midway Elementary Students to Mentor
This week, Young Men and Young Women of Distinction from Millennium Middle School traveled to Midway Elementary School of the Arts, and initiated the first of many "Reading with Distinction" sessions. Young Men of Distinction got to read to many first and second-grade classes.
The younger students respond so positively to their older peers and appreciate the encouragement in their reading and school work.

Teddy Gram Direct is a district-based student enterprise where our students with disabilities work alongside their non-disabled peers and staff to create stuffed animals for sale around the county. Orders must be submitted by February 9th to guarantee delivery on February 14th, so order today! Please remember to pick your school location to ensure proper delivery, as well as the student and their teacher's name.

Lawton Chiles Middle School SRO Named "Spotlight Award" Recipient
Congratulations to School Resource Officer Ashley Pierce, our SRO from Lawton Childes Middle School. She received the Spotlight award from the City of Oviedo Police Department. She earned this recognition because of her tireless work to help the kids, families, and staff she serves at Lawton Chiles. She loves being an SRO and the LCMS family loves her back.

Oviedo High Featured on High School Radio
High School Radio is a project undertaken by Cox Media Group’s WDBO and we are enthusiastic about partnering with high schools like Oviedo High School to showcase the talent, accomplishments, and vibrant personalities that make each school special. We believe that our local high schools have much to offer, and we want to provide a platform for students, athletes, staff, and parents to share their experiences, achievements, and contributions.
High School Radio on WDBO is thrilled to spotlight Oviedo High School students Uriah Williams, Hannah Adamson, and Ella Pilacek who discuss a wide variety of topics including the Biotech program, Black Student Union, Athletics, and more.
WDBO is committed to providing a platform for the voices of the future. High School Radio aims to provide students with hands-on experience in radio while fostering creativity and communication skills.
We encourage everyone in our community to support High School Radio with Oviedo High School by tuning in this weekend to WDBO at the following times:

Winter Springs High Students Win Big at Regional Competition
HOSA (Future Health Professionals) students from Winter Springs High had a fantastic weekend and placed in several events at the Southeast Regional HOSA Competition. Out of nearly 1,000 competitors, WSHS students had some fantastic results!
Nya Brotherson placed First in Researched Persuasive Writing and Speaking.
Poojita Kanumuri and Diya Patel earned Second Place with their Health Career Display.
Saisamanvi Nadimpalli and Swathi Subramanian placed second for Medical Innovation.
Rohita Kanumuri earned third place in Job Seeking Skills.
Anna Webb, Kayla Monsalve, Audrey Hale, Vrinda Chitadi, and Paulina Rodriguez took home Fifth Place for Creative Problem Solving.
Caitlin Brosch (Round One Winner), Shruti Likhite, (Round One Winner), Yashna Singh, Bianca Andrea Perez, Julia Shearer, and Sheryl Daniel gave an impressive showing in the categories of Veterinary Science, Biotechnical Science, Health Career Display, Job Seeking Skills, and Behavior Health.

Registration for the 2024-2025 VPK School Year at SCPS locations begins on February 5th. To be eligible for VPK, a child must be four years of age by September 1, 2024.
SCPS VPK offers a high-quality program designed to prepare students to enter Kindergarten ready to learn!

Kindergarten Registration Opens February 1st | |
Seminole County's Touch-a-Truck event returns this year at the Sanford Riverwalk on Saturday, February 3, kicking off Florida Severe Weather Awareness Week.
Kids and families of all ages can check out the trucks, boats, helicopters, and heavy equipment that local agencies use to respond to severe weather and other disasters.
