Carillon Elementary's Hands-on Lab-based Activities

Carillon Elementary students recently engaged in hands-on learning through lab-based activities with our 5th graders. They hosted a Science Enrichment Camp for over 30 students, where participants completed three lab rotations focused on force and motion, weathering and erosion, and physical versus chemical changes. Students had a fantastic time exploring science concepts through active, engaging experiences.

Hamilton Elementary's Musicians in Full Metamorphosis Mode

In music class, at Hamilton Elementary, students connected their science learning about the butterfly life cycle by emerging from their “chrysalises” and taking flight, dancing like butterflies to music by Andy Beck, and even exploring a traditional butterfly dance from the Philippines.



From cocoon to choreography, these innovators are spreading their wings in a truly noteworthy way!

Sabal Point's 5th Grade Animal Experts

At Sabal Point Elementary, chickens and ducks spend time each Thursday with fifth grade animal experts and Mrs. Roberts’ incredible students, creating a meaningful, hands-on learning experience.

Lake Mary Elementary's second grade students enjoyed an unforgettable day exploring color, creativity, and imagination at the Crayola Experience. From hands-on activities to designing their own masterpieces, students were all smiles as they brought learning to life through art.

South Seminole Academy Law Studies' Special Guest

South Seminole Academy's School Resource Officer, Officer James, recently served as a guest speaker in Ms. Walsh’s Law Studies and Criminal Justice classes. During the presentation, he discussed the Bill of Rights, focusing on the 4th, 5th, and 6th Amendments, and helped students explore how these rights apply in a school setting compared to real-world law enforcement scenarios.

To strengthen understanding and engagement, Officer James incorporated interactive learning activities, including multiple-choice questions and scenario-based exercises. Students also participated in role-play activities as law enforcement officers, victims, and suspects, applying constitutional concepts in practical situations. These experiences encouraged critical thinking and meaningful discussion around decision-making, legal boundaries, and individual rights.

Students remained highly engaged throughout the presentation and participated actively in all activities.

This was a valuable and enriching learning experience that helped connect classroom instruction to real-world application.

Building Excellence Through Mentorship: Seminole High & Idyllwilde Elementary Partner for Student Success

SCPS' Young Men and Women of Excellence and Promise (YMWOE/YMWOP) programs at Seminole High School and Idyllwilde Elementary School are collaborating to launch a special partnership that allows YMWOE students to serve as mentors and role models for younger students in YMWOP. The goal is to introduce these elementary students to the YMWOE program, encouraging them to dream big, work hard, believe in themselves, and aspire to become long-term participants in the program as they continue their academic journey.

Through this partnership, high school students will connect with their younger mentees twice a month to share lessons about leadership, education, and character while inspiring each student to reach their highest potential. During each visit, Seminole High mentors encourage their younger “brothers and sisters” at Idyllwilde to set goals, make good choices, and recognize their own potential. This collaboration helps students grow into confident, responsible young leaders by creating a bridge between campuses that promotes personal growth, academic excellence, and community connection.

The partnership is guided by dedicated educators who believe deeply in the power of mentorship. Together, they are striving to create meaningful opportunities for students to learn from one another, share experiences, and build strong relationships that make a lasting impact.

April is National Volunteer Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the incredible individuals and organizations who generously give their time and talents to support our students and schools. We are deeply grateful for our Partners in Education whose dedication helps create caring, enriching learning environments across our campuses.

This week, we are proud to spotlight PAWFECTION, the Endeavor Center’s 2026 Partner in Education. PAWFECTION is a truly special partner, regularly volunteering on campus to support students through the comforting presence of their adorable, well-trained comfort dogs. Their consistent dedication and compassionate service make a meaningful difference in the lives of our students each and every visit.

SCPS and Endeavor are so grateful for the partnership with PAWFECTION and honor them during National Volunteer Month!

This is Dr. Danielle Alchin's second year as a proud SCPS principal, currently serving at Wicklow Elementary.

When asked about her favorite part of being a principal, she shared, "Getting to see teachers grow in their abilities and building the relationships with the students, staff, and families."

Graduating SCPS Seniors - Free Summer College Class Opportunity at Seminole State

SCPS graduating seniors planning to attend Seminole State in the fall are invited to get a jumpstart on their college education by taking two classes this summer with no out-of-pocket costs during the Summer B Session from June 24-Aug. 5. The deadline to submit an interest form, apply for admission and submit the 2025-26 FAFSA is June 4.

The Summer Bridge program helps first-time-in-college students easily transition to college and develop crucial skills for success.

No matter whether a student plans to go all the way to a bachelor's degree, use a university transfer pathway such as DirectConnect to UCF®, or is just trying to see if college is right for them, the Summer Bridge program can help set them on the right path!

Seminole County Virtual School Offering Behind the Wheel Driver's Training Course - Summer 2026

Seminole County Virtual School is offering Driver Education this summer, giving students the opportunity to build essential skills and prepare for the road ahead.

As a reminder, Florida now requires teens to complete a driver education course to earn their Learner’s License. This program helps students meet that requirement while gaining valuable knowledge and experience.

The course includes behind-the-wheel training in partnership with the Florida Safety Council and allows students to earn 0.5 high school elective credit. Participants will also prepare for the Class E Knowledge Exam and earn both DETS and TLSAE certifications.

The program is tuition-free for SCVS public school students, making it an accessible option for those ready to take the first step toward driving with confidence.
