SCPS Kindergarten Kickoff

The Great Kindergarten Kickoff has begun! All SCPS Elementary schools are ready to register their newest learners onsite during school hours!

The transition to kindergarten is a big milestone for students and families. The Great Kindergarten Kickoff provides a warm and welcoming introduction to the SCPS school community while ensuring families have all the necessary information and resources for a great start to their child's educational journey. We can't wait to meet our littlest learners.

Student Leadership Class Takes Tour of the SCPS Educational Support Center

Leadership students at Crooms Academy took a trip to the Educational Support Center, where they received a thorough tour of the numerous departments that shape Seminole County Public Schools.

Midway's Lunch on the Lawn

Students at Midway Elementary are ditching the cafeteria! Instead of having a traditional lunch at the lunch table, families were invited to join their children for a lunch on the lawn! How exciting! Go Roadrunners!

Lyman High Thespian Troupe competes at Florida State Thespian Festival

30 Lyman High students traveled to Tampa over Spring Break to attend the week-long Florida State Thespian Festival, the largest Thespian Festival in the country. There were a variety of competitions including costume design, set design, musical solos, small group musical, one-act productions, and much more. This shows the diverse talent that we have here in Seminole County!

During the day, students compete in their specific areas while others attend workshops put on by industry professionals, giving students the opportunity to learn more about their craft.

By the end of the week, Lyman's troupe walked away with Superiors, (the highest rating), in every competition, and several students earned Top Honors! Lyman also received special recognition as a Silver troupe, highlighting the impressive work that they have been doing.

Lyman Thespian students have truly put in the hard work and dedication, and it shows! Congratulations on these prestigious awards. Go Greyhounds!

14 Year Old Deaf Musician Plays for Winter Springs High's Marching Band

Lainey Mahnan is a student at Winter Springs High. In 2011, her parents discovered that she was profoundly deaf. After learning that hearing aids wouldn't be an effective solution, doctors recommended cochlear Implants. Fast forward 14 years, and Lainey is now thriving as she refuses to let anything hold her back. She is a talented musician in the school marching Band.

Lainey, we are genuinely inspired by your journey. It is an honor to have you in our district!

Seminole High Students Testify Before the Florida Senate's Environmental & Natural Resources Committee

Students from Seminole High testified before the Florida State Senate’s Environment & Natural Resources Committee, where the students' bill to designate the Florida Scrub-jay as Florida's State Songbird passed unanimously (8–0) to move forward. They also met with Representative Mooney (House sponsor), Senator Garcia (Senate sponsor), and Senator Brodeur, a strong supporter of their efforts.

Congratulations to these students for this outstanding legislative achievement!

Principal Lindsey Todd has been an SCPS principal for three years, currently serving at Layer Elementary. When asked about her favorite part of being a principal, she replied, “I love working with students to prioritize their personal achievement and to build them as future citizens."

A surprising fact about Principal Todd, back when she was an Oviedo High student, she was the Battallion Commander of her NJROTC unit! 

We are grateful to have Principal Todd's remarkable leadership and steadfast dedication to our district.

The Pathways to Possibilities Career Fair/Internship Expo is an opportunity for employers to meet bright, motivated individuals ready to make an impact, and for SCPS 10th, 11th, and 12th graders to look for potential internships and employment opportunities.

The SCPS Living on My Own program, is a financial literacy program developed by the University of Florida, Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS). The goal of the program is to help students understand the cost of living for one month of their adult life and some of the ways their adult life can be impacted by the choices and decisions they make. After receiving information in class, students attend a 90-minute simulation where they are randomly assigned a job or career and family situation. They receive information about the education and training required, annual and monthly salary, and make transactions at the 10 “storefronts” in the Living on my Own “city”.

We are currently looking for volunteers to help with the upcoming Living on My Own opportunities, and what better time to volunteer then during Financial Literacy Month!
