What's Cool in Our Schools

CTE Rocks Tour

Career and Technical Education (CTE) is a vital part of our thriving school district, and a key to having a future-ready workforce in our community.

February is CTE month, and we decided to have some fun with a series of special behind-the-scenes tours with a small group of community members, parents, and business owners to showcase the variety of opportunities our students have access to.

Here are some images of our first tour!

A student explaining the collaborative process between engineering, electrical and automotive students to design and build an electric race car.

A tour member tried her hand at welding (using virtual reality) of course. Students learn with realistic VR trainers at Lyman High before taking their skills to the welding bays.

The group learned about suspension system inspections from two automotive students.

Our group learned about the finance academy at Lake Brantley High and visited the student run Addition Financial branch on campus.

Guests also learned about our Early Childhood courses where students can become certified to go to work in daycares or go on to pursue their education in any number of fields.

Mr. Moy, automotive teacher shared about the importance of community partnerships to make our career and technical education programs top notch.

Living in Two Cultures Workshop

The ESOL Family Leadership Institute hosted an interactive workshop for the ESOL families on "Living in Two Cultures." During the workshop, families were offered insights, practical strategies and an opportunity for powerful discussions to help them build a strong foundation for academic success and belonging.

In addition, the families participated in collaborative discussions on the importance of daily attendance throughout their educational journey in grades K-12 and details of the upcoming ESOL ACCESS State Assessment. While the families attended the workshop, the students completed literary and hands-on science activities.

Seminole High Students Mentor Buddies at Idyllwilde Elementary

Seminole High Schools Young Men of Excellence and Idyllwilde Elementary School’s Young Men of Promise Mentoring program collaborated to complete a Cup Stacking Challenge.

Students had a wonderful experience setting goals, communicating, and team building, while forming bonds of brotherhood. These young men expressed they were able to problem-solve and achieve more by working together to accomplish a common goal.

This amazing experience provided all students the opportunity to learn that every individual on the team plays a vital role in reaching a desired goal.

Solar S'mores at Rainbow Elementary

Ms. Batcheler’s class at Rainbow Elementary enjoyed learning about the sun’s light and heat energy using solar ovens to make S'mores.

Students had a great time watching the heat build and making predictions on how long it would take to make the chocolate melt enough to enjoy their delicious treat. The observation process was mouth-watering!

It's Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month

Career & Technical Education Month is observed across the nation to recognize the accomplishments of students & educators and highlight collaboration among local businesses, leaders, and industry partners that contribute to the success of CTE programs everywhere. #SCPSCTERocks
