Lyman High Mechatronics Project Creates a Race to the Finish Line |
Mechatronics is an exciting and quickly emerging field that includes both the mechanical and electronics fields. From theme park rides to automation and industry robotics, mechatronics allows students to use their knowledge in math, physics, electronics, mechanical systems, and principles of engineering to create innovative projects. Mechatronics at Lyman is part of the engineering cluster; however, it is the only class open to all students at Lyman High School as an elective course.
Students designed and built electric cars from the ground up including learning how to weld the frames, install the wheel and steering systems, and wire the electronics to make their cars run. The goal of the project was to see whose car could do the most laps or last the longest based on design and technology and the winning car was able to complete 71 laps around the track!
Superintendent Beamon and School Board Member Pennock joined in on the fun with a race in cars fully designed, developed, and produced completely by students. From what we hear, Superintendent Beamon had no problem putting the petal to the metal and crossing the finish line with a huge smile on her face.

CTE Rocks on Tour
February is Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month, and we decided to kick it off with a fun way to have our community members, business owners, and parents come onto our campuses to get a firsthand experience with opportunities our students have.
We created a series of three "tour" dates at various campuses to provide an overview of some of the options students have in our schools. We love showcasing our incredible teachers and students and providing information to our community about how our graduates are future-ready.
We received great feedback and wonderful questions that we were happy to answer. The tours were such a hit that they have been requested for next year. Please stay tuned for more exciting information about our CTE programs.

Evans Elementary Reading Buddies
Ms. Hood’s and Mrs. Hamel’s students personified their school mascot of "sun rays" during their Sunray Reading Buddies time.
We love seeing creative ways to encourage literacy, enhance friendships, and use the Florida sunshine to make reading an outdoor adventure!
