Markham Woods Middle School BioMechatronics Students Call in a Heavy Hitter

What do you do when you purchase something high-tech that is accidentally deprogrammed, and customer service can’t help?

Students in Markham Woods Middle School’s Capstone course figured out how to contact the owner of the company. This gave them the opportunity to do a Zoom call with Dr. Nikunj Bhagat, owner of Neuralaxy, a producer of neuro stimulators.

Dr. Bhagat was intrigued with the idea of a team of 8th-grade students working with such a high-level piece of equipment. He felt it critical he work directly with the Capstone team to troubleshoot and fix the problem. This international Zoom call between Lake Mary and India allowed for students to better understand the equipment and get questions answered regarding the optimal ways to apply the technology. Way to go, students!

SCPS Hosts First Career Fair for Juniors and Seniors

The ePathways Department hosted the first "Pathways to Possibilities" career fair for all high school juniors and seniors. We had over 70 businesses and over 600 students gather on three baseball fields at Boombah Sports Complex.

Students had copies of their resumes and were provided transportation. Some of our students were even hired on the spot! Students and businesses alike enjoyed this experience and we look forward to making this event even better next year.

Lyman High Team Wins First Electrathon Race

The Lyman Electrathon Team is made up of students in the Engineering magnet program and Automotive programs working together. These students designed and built their car from the ground up and had amazing results on their first race.

The racing team, consisting of Michael Hess, Matthew Oglesby, Joshua Evenden-Wallick, and Warner Ducheine, competed in their first-ever race this last weekend at the Energy Whiz Event on the campus of UCF in Cocoa. These students competed against students from other high schools and colleges.

Matthew Oglesby drove the first race and placed third amongst all the High Schools. Michael Hess drove the second race and finished second in the High School Division. At the final awards, Lyman Electrathon took first place in the High School division and second overall, only beaten by a 20-year veteran of Electrathon racing.

Congratulations, Lyman!
