What's Cool in Our Schools

Hagerty Latinos In Action Students Engage with Carillon's Young Readers

Latinos in Action (LIA) students at Hagerty High School visit Carillon Elementary weekly to work with young readers, to foster a love for reading, and enhance literacy skills through interactive reading sessions and personalized support. This partnership not only helps our elementary students improve their reading abilities, but also provides high schoolers with valuable leadership and mentoring experiences.

At SCPS, our desire is to build a stronger, more connected community, and this is a wonderful example of doing just that. Thank you to our Huskies and Comets for making a positive impact on our district!

Midway Students Study Space

Midway Elementary students blasted off on an exciting journey to the Kennedy Space Center where students learned all about space travel and the history of space exploration. This was such a memorable experience for our Midway students to combine lessons they have had in the classroom with real-world applications.

Go Roadrunners!

Eastbrook Elementary Students Host Parent Conferences

Conferences at Eastbrook Elementary have taken on a new form! The Eagles are changing their approach to parent/teacher conferences with their new student-led conferences! The objective behind this format was for students to have discussions with their parents showcasing their school performance and growth, highlighting their hard work and achievements throughout the school year.

This was an excellent way to encourage students to take pride and ownership in their work! We look forward to seeing more student-led conferences in the future! Go Eagles!

SCPS Principal Spotlight

At SCPS, we are dedicated to celebrating our schools and the exceptional leaders who guide them.

Principal Trent Daniel - Oviedo High School

Principal Trent Daniel has been with SCPS since 1990. This is her eighth year as a principal, currently serving at Oviedo High.

When asked about her favorite part of being a principal, she replied, “My favorite part of being a principal is the opportunity to witness students grow into confident young adults, pursuing their dreams, and striving for greatness. Knowing that Oviedo High School has laid the foundation for their success fills me with pride. Whether they are heading to college, stepping into the workforce, enlisting in the military, or chasing personal goals, it’s inspiring to see their hard work and determination come to fruition. Our faculty and staff are the heart of this school, and together we are committed to ensuring each student has the support and resources they need to thrive. The relationships we build, whether with students, families, or colleagues, are what make this work so rewarding. As a leader within this community, I take immense pride in helping shape the lives of our students, connecting with their families, and fostering meaningful relationships with our faculty and staff. This is more than just a job; it’s a lifelong commitment to excellence, compassion, and growth. I am proud to serve a school and town that value education, family, and the pursuit of success. Oviedo High School isn’t just where I work, it’s my home, my family, my passion, and my legacy."

A surprising fact about Principal Daniel, during her upbringing, she experienced a significant amount of financial need and trauma, especially during her teenage years. Those challenges shaped who she is today and continues to fuel her passion for creating a supportive and nurturing environment for her students at Oviedo High. She believes every student deserves the foundation and encouragement to overcome obstacles and achieve their dreams.

We are truly fortunate to have Principal Daniel’s exceptional leadership and commitment in our district. Go Lions!
