Sixty Seconds with the Superintendent

Each week, we receive questions for the Superintendent from students in pre-K through 12th grade. In this video series, Ms. Beamon will answer these questions and help our families and the community we serve get to know the leader of our public schools.

Longwood Elementary Hosts "Signing Day" for Incoming Kindergarteners

The administration team and "Bolt" the mascot at Longwood Elementary were on hand to welcome their future Lions with a special signing day event. Each student received a certificate and a photo with Bolt that families will cherish. What a fun and creative way to welcome our littlest learners. We can't wait to meet our new SCPS Kindergarten class.

Representative Cory Mills Visits Lake Brantley High School

Representative Cory Mills paid a special visit to Lake Brantley High School this week. He visited the JROTC program and witnessed their drone skills in action. Our students also had the opportunity to hear about his journey and the role that leadership has played in his life.

He was also treated to a visit with the student-run Addition Financial branch to see how our students are getting first-hand experience with banking and understanding transactions and fiscal responsibility with this actual banking branch supported by Addition Financial.

We are always excited to welcome guests to our campus to see all of the opportunities available for our students.

Seminole County Students Win Big at State Science Fair

Last Thursday, the 68th annual State Science and Engineering Fair of Florida hosted their Awards Ceremony for the 660 middle school and high school student research projects that represent the top researchers in each county. Seminole County was well-represented by its students and supporting teachers!

12 of our county's top 15 middle school projects and 13 of our top 15 high projects were selected for awards, including 8 special awards and 21 category "place" awards. This 70% category placement award rate is substantially higher than the fair's overall aim of 40%!

One of our students, Crooms AoIT junior Kevin Perez, received 1st place in Mathematics and Computational Sciences research across the state! Kevin's project is working to improve cybersecurity measures by taking a multiprocessing approach for generating the prime numbers that create elliptical digital signatures used in car key fobs and digital encryption "keys." Many congratulations to Kevin, as well as to the SCPS community that's helped to guide him, such as his supportive family; his CAoIT teachers Josue Urbina and Judy Pryde; SCPS science fair staff and volunteers Rachel Novella, Tiffany Spradling, and Ben Pernezny; his trip sponsors Sarah and Derek Jensen; and his Take Stock in Children mentor Michael Heald!

We are very proud of the great work that STEMinole County's student scientists and engineers have accomplished this year and celebrate these well-deserved accolades.
