“In every adult there lurks a child – an eternal child, something that is always becoming, is never completed, and calls for unceasing care, attention, and education. That is the part of the human personality which wants to develop and become whole.”
Carl Jung

The Archetype of Peace

Michelle Rivera-Clonch, Ph.D.

March 14, 2026
9:30 am – 12:30 pm

First Community

Dr. Rivera-Clonch in her book “A Depth Psychological Study of the Peace Symbol:  Jung, Politics & Culture, states, “How are we, as a cultural collective, registering this virtually unknown entity of peace into our visual cultural economy? How do visual representations or symbols of peace further social causes and which benefits can be gained from utilizing a peace symbol’s cultural capital?” Id., at p.4. Further, recognizing Jung’s basic concept of the tension of the opposites, she realized that it was “impossible to study peace outside of its fixed binary opposition to war” and thus one must understand both to understand either. The peace symbol was born out of World War II. What better time than today to again revisit its purpose and fathom whether and how the shift to peace can be achieved.

Man & His Symbols, The Process of Individuation

Starting April 26, 2026 (and every 2 weeks thereafter until done)

4:00 pm – 5:30 pm

By Zoom only

We will begin our journey of “The Process of Individuation,” Chapter 3 of Jung’s Book “Man & His Symbols.” There is much to ponder in this chapter and so we will have several “leaders” to take us through Dr. Marie Louise von Franz’s Path to Individuation.

As stated in the Introduction of the book, “Dr. Franz … describes the process by which the conscious and the unconscious within an individual learn to know, respect, and accommodate one another. In a certain sense, this chapter contains not only the crux of the whole book, but perhaps the essence of Jung’s philosophy of life. Man becomes whole, integrated, calm, fertile, and happy when (and only when) the process of individuation is complete, when the conscious and the unconscious have learned to live at peace and to complement one another.” Man & His Symbols, p.14.

Book Club is always free but you need to register so that we can send you the link.

Saturday Conversations

We want to thank everyone who attended “The Many Faces of JACO.” We learned some wonderful facts about our community and now have much food for thought with respect to going forward, meeting the needs of our members, and expanding our community.

We will be holding another Saturday Conversations in the not too distant future so look for details in our next newsletter.

Scholarships Available

Several years ago, long-term supporters of JACO, Rich and Sharon Bates, started a scholarship fund for individuals who wish to attend a JACO program but who do not have the necessary funds to do so. Support can range from a discount on the price of the program to the full price of the program. If you or someone you know needs this assistance, all you need to do is contact us at jungaco@jungcentralohio.org and let us know how we can be of help.
