Juaneño Band of Mission Indians Dedicates New Putuidem Village

UCI's Museum Receives Naming Gift from Jack and Shanaz Langson

In recognition of their generous support, University of California, Irvine will name its new museum the Jack and Shanaz Langson Institute and Museum of California Art in recognition for their naming gift. The museum was established by UCI in 2017, after receiving gifts of two important collections of California art: The Irvine Museum Collection and The Buck Collection. Read more here.

The Newport Beach City Council voted to approve final plans for the library lecture hall project, which has been in the works for the city and the supporters of its public library for years. READ MORE in The Daily Pilot here.

New works of public art have debuted at new apartment residences in the cities of Placentia and Dana Point: "Staring at the Sun" by Brad Howe (top) is at The Herald, near Old Town Placentia, and "Guiding Light" a mural by Drew Merritt adorns Prado West in the Lantern District (read more here in the Dana Point Times article).

Artists and arts leaders were among those honored in the 17th Annual Fullerton Women's Leadership Forum event by founder and Assemblymember Sharon Quirk-Silva, former Fullerton City Councilmember Pam Keller and the Women's Club of Fullerton. They were: musician and artist Aimee Aul; Leanna Forcucci, co-owner of CF Dance Academy and the Classic Ballroom in downtown Fullerton; and Elvia Rubalcava, the Interim Director of the Fullerton Museum Center. During the pandemic, Arts Orange County's VOICES: Veterans Storytelling Project went virtual, with veterans sharing stories about their lives before, during and after their military service as well as speaking about their creative endeavors as writers, artists, and musicians.

Recently added to the online collection of videos we have produced are the stories of Carol Singleton, Mike Ellzey, Tom Tierney, Douglas Freeman, Giovanni Berdejo, Robert "Sarge" Perez, Andrew Sutton, Matt Grisat and George Davis.

Under the auspices of Arts Orange County, writer and theatre artist Dave Barton has been teaching creative writing to Transitional Age Youth at the Theo Lacy Facility of the Orange County Jail. This is a revival of a pilot project conducted three years ago thanks to the generosity of individuals in our community. Funds are now being raised to continue these classes and offer additional classes to incarcerated veterans and women. You can support it by donating online here.
