Thank a Physician: Today is Doctor's Day
Today, March 30, is Doctors' Day, a time to acknowledge and celebrate all the hard work of our fellow physicians. In a recent survey of 1,200 physicians and physicians-in-training, the AMA found that despite the current challenging health care landscape, nine in 10 of the respondents said they are satisfied with their career choice. Half of those who pursue medicine consider it a calling, and three-quarters of physicians said they are motivated by the opportunity to help people above all else. Seventy-three percent of those surveyed said they knew before they reached the age of 20 that they wanted to become doctors, and nearly one-third knew before becoming a teenager.
MNCM Announces New President
MN Community Measurement (MNCM) has named Julie Sonier as the organization's new president. Sonier, who is scheduled to begin May 1, most recently served as director of Minnesota's State Employee Group Insurance Program. Previously, she served as lead staff for Gov. Tim Pawlenty's Health Care Transformation Task Force in 2007-2008 which brought together stakeholders from across the health policy community in Minnesota to develop initiatives aimed at improving health care cost, quality and access.
MMA, U of M Medical School Release Resources to Encourage Preceptor Participation
The MMA and the University of Minnesota Medical School recently released a "Community Preceptor Toolbox," a suite of tools and resources to improve the training and support for clinical preceptors. The tools and resources were created in collaboration with the University of Minnesota Medical School's Medical Educator Development and Scholarship Program (MEDS). Read more here.

Pharmacy Board Looking for Integration Help with PMP, EMR
The Minnesota Board of Pharmacy is seeking proposals from qualified Minnesota health care entities, Minnesota licensed pharmacies and state-certified Health Information Exchange service providers - Health Information Organizations (HIE-HIO) to integrate access to Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP) data into the electronic clinical workflow using an electronic medical record (EMR) or pharmacy operations software. Application deadline is 4 pm on May 10. Total amount of funding available is $200,000. For more information, click here
