Yesterday, Senator deViere attended a town hall in Fayetteville focused on public education, Medicaid expansion & our state budget. This was a great opportunity to talk with constituents & community leaders on the importance of a healthier Cumberland County & a budget that works for everyone.
NCGA UPDATE: Department of Public Instruction
After speaking with dozens of teachers & parents, Sen. deViere joined Sen.  Jay Chaudhuri  & Sen.  Natasha Marcus,  & signed onto a letter asking Sen. Berger to stop the NC Superintendent & DPI from forcing a new change in testing for K-3 reading. The new selection has raised many questions and concerns about the procurement process on how we test our children. Our schools and teachers should have more input and less pushback.
NCGA UPDATE: HOUSE BILL 325
Earlier this week,  Governor Roy Cooper  signed HB 325 (the Opioid Epidemic Response Act) into law. Senator Kirk deViere supported this bill because it will help increase access to medication-assisted treatment & expand harm reduction measures to reduce opioid overdose deaths across North Carolina.
ANNE CHESNUTT MIDDLE - FIRST DAY BACK
On Monday, Senator deViere joined Cumberland County Schools Superintendent Dr. Connelly & Principal Jackson as they welcomed Anne Chesnutt Middle students back for another great school year. They were joined by DeMario Perez (7th Grade) & Jerany Figueroa (6th Grade). Senator deViere is committed to ensuring that Cumberland County schools & teachers are well equipped for another successful school year.
LEADERSHIP ACADEMY AT EE SMITH HIGH SCHOOL
Last week, Senator deViere participated in the Dr. WT Brown Leadership Academy at EE Smith High School. He talked with over 25 young leaders about why “Leadership Matters”. Great questions from these young minds.

NCGA UPDATE: SENATE BILL 683
Earlier this month, The Senate passed SB-683, a bill Senator deViere co-sponsored, which restores the last Saturday of Early Voting in North Carolina. This is a milestone for voters across the state who take advantage of this weekend voting opportunity.
