BUDGET VETO OVERRIDE UPDATE

Senate Democrats did not take any chances. All 21 Senate Democrats were present this week in case Republican leadership wanted to take a vote on the Governor's Budget Veto Override. One thing is clear: Senate Democrats were #21Strong  and are still ready to sustain  Governor Cooper ’s budget veto. ‪All veto overrides have been moved until after Nov. 13th Why? Republican leadership still don't have the votes for an override. NC still doesn’t have a budget - we have more work to do for our state & I hope all my colleagues come back in November to work on a budget that brings prosperity for NC. ‬#21Strong

REDISTRICTING UPDATE

REDISTRICTING UPDATE: Earlier this week, the state Judges approved the new legislative maps. More to come soon! Stay tuned as we will be discussing this more thoroughly in the coming weeks.

HISPANIC BUSINESS FORUM

Last week, Sen. DeViere hosted a Hispanic Business Forum with local Hispanic Business owners to talk about economic growth & development of the Hispanic/Latino business community in Cumberland County. We are honored to have Kenny Flowers from The NC Department of Commerce for doing a presentation on economic development. Thank you Greater Fayetteville Chamber for hosting!

STRENGTHEN CHILD SEX ABUSE LAWS

Earlier this week, the Senate unanimously voted to support the conference report for SB199 (Child Sex Abuse/Strengthen Laws) which would close loopholes for incapacitation & revoked consent, increase time for child victims to sue. Senator deViere believes that lawmakers have a duty to keep our children & communities safe.

UPDATE ON LAST SATURDAY EARLY VOTING

While there was no vote on the veto override this week, there was a vote on permanently restoring of the last Saturday of Early Voting - SB683. Senator deViere believes that his is a step forward in our continued fight against voter suppression. House approved it as well so next stop is with Governor.

FIGHTING FOR MEDICAID EXPANSION

Senator deViere believes that we can provide affordable healthcare to more than 18,000+ Cumberland County citizens, create good-paying jobs, support our hospitals, and grow our state economy by $11.7 Billion in the next 3 years. Senator deViere is fighting for Medicaid Expansion because he believes that it is the right thing to do.

Earlier this week, The North Carolina Senate confirmed Senator Floyd McKissick to the State Utilities Commission, which he was appointed by Governor Cooper earlier this year. WIDU ANNIVERSARY 2019

Senator deViere and his wife, Jenny, were excited to attend the 2019 WIDU Anniversary in Fayetteville. Each year the family of the WIDU Radio Network comes together to bring the Top Gospel Artists, Performers and Speakers to the community they love the most - Fayetteville. As a locally owned and run radio station, WIDU Radio Network understands the impact of giving back and support. WHITE CANE AWARENESS DAY

Senator deViere had the honor of speaking at the White Cane Day 2K Walk/Run last week in Fayetteville to support Blind Awareness. White Cane Awareness Day is our way of emphasizing the critical role that this tool plays in living the lives we want and informing the public about its true significance.
