The Office of Senator Kirk deViere received this information on the detection of PFAS Compounds at Gray’s Creek Elementary School. Our office is closely monitoring this with the NC Department of Environmental Quality. More information to come soon.
NCDOT UPDATE
Today, Governor Cooper signed the following bills into law: 


Senate Bill 356  authorizes NCDOT to borrow an additional $100 million for road construction projects through bonds and provides $100 million from the state’s general fund, mostly to use for cleanup after disasters such as hurricanes Florence and Dorian. It also says the department does not have to repay $90 million the legislature provided as a loan for storm repairs and cleanup earlier this year. To read more on this, click here.
UPDATE ON CONGRESSIONAL MAPS
This week, the NC Senate came back to Raleigh and approved the new Congressional Map with a vote along party lines.

"These maps are not approved by the courts so these new districts are not final: said Senator Kirk deViere.

DMVA VETERANS CEMETERY EXPANSION
Earlier this week, Senator deViere was invited to attend the official Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the 2019 Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery. This was a great event for North Carolina veterans and their families as the community members and the NC Department of Military and Veteran Affairs commemorated the expansion of the Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery.
NCGA UPDATE ON TEACHER PAY
Senator deViere agrees with Governor Cooper and supports his decision to veto this bill. Surrounded by teachers, he vetoed H231 and S354, calling for the legislature to make a meaningful raise a priority for educators. Additionally, the Governor vetoed fiscally irresponsible corporate tax cuts bill.

Senator deViere was honored of being at The Fayetteville Veterans Day Parade last weekend and got to speak with many veterans and their families who have served our country.
