REMEMBER MY NAME NAME DOMESTIC VIOLENCE VIGIL
Last night, Senator deViere attended the Remember My Name Domestic Violence Vigil on the steps of the Cumberland County Courthouse with a crowd of community members to honor victims who have died due to domestic violence. In case you didn’t know, October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Domestic violence is never acceptable – if you or a loved one is being abused or threatened, speak out. 2019 SECOND CHANCE ACT GRANT
The federal Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention has awarded the N.C. Department of Public Safety with a 2019 Second Chance Act Grant for the expansion, adaptation and evaluation of the Juvenile Justice section’s Youth Reentry Program. The grant, worth $1.16 million, will continue funding for the Youth Reentry Program, also known as Reentry to Resiliency (R2R), initiated with grant funding in 2016. The Department partnered with Communities in Schools of North Carolina (CISNC) to pilot the R2R program in four counties: Wake, Durham, Guilford and Cumberland. The new funding will enable the expansion of the program to two additional counties (Mecklenburg and Nash), and will help officials adapt the program model to better meet the needs of the transition-age young people who will be served by the juvenile justice system when the age of juvenile jurisdiction increases to 18 in December 2019
HERITAGE DAY - EASTOVER, NC

ELECTRIC CO-OP RURAL BROADBAND SERVICES
Last Week, the Senate passed SB 310 = HB 387 which enacts changes to the Growing Rural Economies with access to technology program and to provide funding for that program. The Senator believes that this a step in the right direction for North Carolina families because it invests in quality broadband in rural communities. SAMUEL COUNCIL CHAPTER - 25TH ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP BANQUET
Senator deViere would like to thank the 555th Parachute Infantry Association (Samuel Council Chapter) and CSM Taybron for their contributions to our community and our youth. Senator deViere was honored to be part of the event. 25 years of providing scholarships is impactful and very uplifting.
FAYETTEVILLE NAACP 31ST LIFE MEMBERSHIP BANQUET
Senator deViere was honored to bring greetings at the  Fayetteville NAACP  31st Life Membership Banquet last weekend. Senator deViere believes that when we fight for Equality, We Win. Senator deViere talked about the importance of Expanding Medicaid in North Carolina and bringing prosperity to our communities.
VETERAN OWNED FARM VISIT
Senator deViere met with some veteran farmers last week to talk about ways to help start up farmers as well as a pathway for veterans into farming. Great conversation and some good ideas.
MEDICAID EXPANSION FIELD HEARING AT THE NORTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY
Last week, Senate Democratic Leader,  NC Senator Dan Blue, Jr  and House Democratic Leader, Darren Jackson, presided over a Medicaid Expansion Field Hearing at the General Assembly on why North Carolina should expand Medicaid!Expanding Medicaid would create more than thousands of jobs across North Carolina and would help 500,000+ North Carolinians gain access to quality, affordable healthcare. Senator deViere believes that not only is it good policy, it's just the right thing to do. 
NCGA BUDGET UPDATE
More than 90 days ago,  Governor Roy Cooper  released a budget compromise proposal that closes the coverage gap, raises teacher pay, creates good paying jobs & generates an economy that works for everyone. Senator deViere believes that an October 31st ultimatum is not compromising. Its time to come to the table & work together.
FAYETTEVILLE STATE UNIVERSITY 2019 HOMECOMING
Nothing like an HBCU Homecoming parade - especially at  Fayetteville State University ! The streets were full of passionate community members, students, and FSU Alumni! Senator deViere had a great time participating in the annual parade with his family.
OLE MILL DAY AND MILL VILLAGE REUNION 2019
Hope Mills was full of hometown feeling last Saturday with Ole Mill Day and the Mill Village Reunion 2019. Senator deViere had the honor of getting to talk to constituents and community leaders at the festival and hear the old mill stories at the reunion.
