Aloha from Maui,
Mahalo to everyone who came to our mainland show. The tour with Led and Jeff was wonderful. It was very uplifting to see our friends, both old and new. Mahalo to all of you who have supported our Slack Key Show by waiving refunds on fire-canceled tickets, donations through our website, and cash and checks in our donation jar at our shows. This will help to carry us through the reopening of Mauiʻs upper westside.

It is great to be back home. George recently got a pacemaker to help with a slow
heartbeat and is feeling much better. Nancy just spent all day helping our new realtor stage the house for photos and video. The house/farm will be listed again before the end of the month.
Mahalo for your support and friendship.

Mahalo to all of our Fire Relief oFundMe supporters. We are still accepting donations on my website to help us continue operating the show. We are anticipating weak ticket sales in the first months of reopening. Authorities have suggested 20% of normal visitors are expected. Our goal is to survive another long-term covid-like recovery with your assistance.

How I Got to Know Uncle George Kahumoku
By Jason Jerome, Lahaina Music
|
|
I will never know why Uncle George took me under his wing so many years ago. I was not especially deserving. But Uncle George is a farmer, and farmers know a LOT about what is needed to make things grow. The way I play ‘ukulele now is certainly only barely related to how I played it 15 years ago. The same could be said for how I go about many aspects of my life.
I was not raised on the island, and my first sense of Uncle George was as if he had just always been there somehow as if he was part of the land, part of the ʻāina... I arrived on Maui in 1995 and was very much involved in the restaurant scene at the time, though not at all the music scene. I had never seen Uncle George play. I had certainly heard him though, as his recordings were everywhere. But I never thought I would meet him. >>>

I recommend this excellent Ukulele instruction book. It is very complete with information for beginning to advanced. Jasonʻs store, Lahaina Music, burned down in the Lahaina Fires. Sales of this book will benefit Jason directly and to help him get his store going again. He is an important part of the Lahaina music community.
