Today, thousands of Seneca alumni are on the front lines of the response to COVID-19. Whether in healthcare, emergency services, essential businesses or support services for our most vulnerable, they are making Seneca proud with their contributions. Below are some of the stories of the extraordinary work that the Seneca community has done to keep our communities safe in Canada or globally during these unprecedented times.

Premier's Award winner works to keep food bank open during COVID-19
A Seneca graduate at the helm of one of Canada's largest food banks has been "burning both ends of the candle" to help keep people from going hungry during the COVID-19 outbreak. While Neil Hetherington, CEO of
Daily Bread Food Bank
in Toronto, has joined his staff to work on the front lines, Seneca and its food services provider Aramark have donated $5,000 worth of food to the Food Bank of York Region.

Seneca graduate turns spirits into sanitizer
The
All or Nothing Brewhouse
, known for its craft beers, meads and distilled spirits, is now making hand sanitizer exclusively in the fight against COVID-19. Its co-founder, Seneca graduate Eric Dornan, says the decision to switch production, which included sacrificing $50,000 worth of whisky into the mix, was a no-brainer.

Seneca donates urgently needed supplies to local hospitals
Seneca departments have rounded up ventilators and unused surgical gowns, N95 respirator masks, hand sanitizers, wipes and other cleaning supplies for local hospitals in Toronto and York Region.
The equipment, normally used by students and professors in various faculties, is much needed for front-line health-care workers treating and testing for COVID-19.

The inside track of a race announcer
Seneca graduate Ken Warkentin has called close to 225,000 horse races, including 20 editions of the $1-million Hambletonian at the Meadowlands Racetracks where he is a track announcer. A veteran in the business, he will be calling the premier race’s 95th milestone, scheduled to take place this summer.
“Every time you turn the mic on and you open your mouth to speak, you are one step closer to making a mistake. … But you can’t think about that. You take one race at a time.”

Graduating students' farewell at King Campus
In March, Seneca Alumni hosted the first-ever Graduating Students' Farewell Party in the Alumni Atrium at King Campus. Soon-to-be grads were invited to celebrate their upcoming graduation with a career-related alumni panel, an information fair with Seneca service areas that support students beyond graduation, delicious refreshments and fun activities.
Unfortunately, the Newnham graduation party was cancelled due to COVID-19. We look forward to celebrating more graduating students next year.

Alumni Pay It Forward Challenge takes on new meaning
This spring marks the fifth anniversary of the Alumni Pay It Forward Challenge and with it, an opportunity for alumni to impact a student’s life like never before.
All donations to this year’s Pay It Forward Challenge will benefit Seneca’s COVID-19 Relief Fund to provide financial relief to students in dire need. Thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor,
all donations made to the Pay It Forward Challenge are matched, dollar-for-dollar up to $50,000.
We are so heartened by the tremendous outpouring of alumni generosity and support. In times like this, we are reminded of how interconnected we all are. Thank you to all those who donated.
I
f you are able and would like to double your impact and take advantage of the gift match, it is not too late to make your
