RED highlights
Alumni profile: Alvaro Almeida
Alvaro Almeida, Deputy Chief of Investigations for York Regional Police (YRP), is a firm believer in the importance of community and a good work ethic. Over the years, that’s served him well.
“I was a first-generation immigrant from an immigrant family that was very much blue-collar,” Mr. Almeida said, noting his family came from Portugal and he grew up in Strathroy, a rural town about 230 kilometres southwest of Toronto. “Your name is your reputation. So, anything that you do – give it your all.”
That motto has been a guiding light for Mr. Almeida, who wanted to give back and be of service to the community.
And Seneca Polytechnic’s Police Foundations diploma enabled him to do just that.

Donor profile: Victor Trotman
Seneca Polytechnic alumnus Victor Trotman was so inspired by his mother, who believed in the value of education, he decided honour her legacy with an annual scholarship for a student in financial need.
The Georgiana Trotman Memorial Award, established 3 years ago, supports full-time or part-time students who have a GPA of at least 2.5.
“My mom was an inspiration to her five children,” said Mr. Trotman, a Business Administration graduate. “She always told us: ‘Make books your best friend. Education is freedom and freedom to have choices and no one can take that away from you.’”

Seneca Sting repeat as OCAA women’s soccer champions
Oct. 26-27 was a winning weekend for the Seneca Sting, with our student-athletes winning medals in three different sports.
Highlighting this fantastic weekend of accomplishments was the women’s soccer team, which captured its second straight Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) championship.
