Dear District 113 Community,
It has been widely reported that again this year a game called “Senior Assassin” and/or “Paranoia” has been organized by graduating students in several districts in our area. This is a “hide and seek” style game with the goal of “assassinating” a targeted person with a water gun, nerf gun or similar object. While we understand the game may appear to be harmless, and students who participate have no malicious intent, this activity has the potential to create a hostile and unsafe environment in these communities.
Students who play this game often engage in dangerous behaviors such as reckless driving, trespassing on private property and concealing themselves in public areas. People who are not aware of this game can quickly misinterpret the intentions of the participants, especially when they appear to be armed with a weapon. The fear and anxiety caused by this activity can also detract from the positive and inclusive atmosphere we have fostered and supported in our District.
We want to reiterate that expectations for school-related conduct remain in place until the end of the school year. Bringing a replica weapon on school grounds or engaging in conduct that disrupts the learning environment will result in significant consequences under our Code of Conduct. It could also result in a referral to law enforcement.
Students, we hope you join us in taking this information seriously and continue to support a safe and secure environment for our school community. Parents, please speak with your student about the potential dangerous behaviors and consequences associated with this activity and encourage them not to participate in this game.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
