June 2020
Thank you !
Thanks to the many donors who participated in this year's Coastside Gives Campaign! Because of you, we raised over $80,000 for our home delivered meals program! And, equally important, it showed our community of older adults how much support they have on the Coastside!
Updates, virtual classes & activities
As we settle into our new normal, we are all hopefully finding ways to adjust and adapt. Senior Coastsiders is here to offer support to the Coast's older adults by coordinating with instructors to offer classes, arranging digital presentations, and connecting you with digital resources as well as volunteers. We are open to your ideas for digital programming, so please feel free to contact us!
Books and DVD's - We have a small collection of books and DVD's to loan out from the Senior Coastsiders office. We wipe down all DVDs and book covers as they are returned before putting them back into the collection. Please let us know if you would like to come by (masks required) to pick up a few things.

Our New Normal - New Routines to Keep Life Balanced - Join Denise Krauss on Thursday, June 11 at 11:00am for a Zoom workshop on "Our New Normal: New Routines to Keep Life Balanced." You may find yourself overwhelmed trying to get everything done while staying safe and calm. HOW do you include staying safe while getting everything done? This is our new normal - let's have it work for us, not against us. Join Denise Thursday, June 11th to create a new normal for you! If you’re interested, please send an email to denise@extraordinaryyou.us and the Zoom information will be shared with you.
AARP Tax Appointments - We are working closely with AARP to re-establish tax appointments either through traditional in-person appointments with PPE, physical distancing and other safety protocols, or a drop-off virtual appointment program. Updates will be provided on our website once appointments are available. Additionally, for any clients that are comfortable with self-completion, the AARP Foundation has created a self-service site at   https://signup.aarpfoundation.org/preparing-your-taxes-online/
Online iPhone Class - Having difficulty hearing or seeing on your iPhone? Attend a free online training and make your iPhone work better for you! Learn how to make your iPhone louder and easier to hear, how to send text messages, how to turn your phone into a magnifier, how to connect Bluetooth devices, how to operate basic functions of your iPhone and much more! This two-part online training, presented by California Telephone Access Program will be held June 29th and 30th from 1:00-2:00pm. To participate, you will need a computer, internet service, a valid email address AND an iPhone! Please contact the Senior Coastsiders office at 650-726-9056 to register - space is limited. There will be a similar class for Android phones held July 6th and 7th.
Leah's Pantry Virtual Classes - Join chefs in the kitchen (virtually!) every week to learn how to cook simple, delicious meals while saving money and reducing food waste! Residents of San Mateo County can earn $6 worth of vouchers to buy fruits and vegetables at local farmers' markets (watch the classes for special instructions!) Zoom If you are still wondering what the heck Zoom is and thinking it is time you find out, here are a few great tutorials from the Institute for Successful Longevity:

Speaking of Zoom, did you know that you can join a Zoom meeting from your smart phone in addition to a computer, laptop, or tablet? And did you know that Zoom isn't just for classes and presentations but is used by friends to stay in touch? And honestly, you don't event need to have an account, it can be as simple as clicking on the link sent by the host! We know that a lot of people are missing the interactions that they normally get during lunch in our dining room and so we would like to help bring our friends back together - at least digitally. Our plan is to create some virtual lunch tables (and yes, you can save seats) so that you can see and chat with your friends as we continue to shelter in place. If you are interested in participating, please contact our office at 650-726-9056 or by emailing hatmore@seniorcoastsiders.org
