Let's all go to the movies! We'll provide the popcorn and the film, you just need to be entertained. Each month, we roll down the big screen in the dining room for a feature film (some old, some new). This month, join us to watch King Richard on Tuesday, March 21 at 3:00PM.
Armed with a clear vision and a brazen 78-page plan, Richard Williams is determined to write his daughters, Venus and Serena, into history. Training on Compton, California's neglected tennis courts--rain or shine--the girls are shaped by their father's unyielding commitment and their mother's balanced perspective and keen intuition, defying the seemingly insurmountable odds and prevailing expectations laid before them. Based on the true story that will inspire the world, "King Richard" follows the uplifting journey of a family whose unwavering resolve and unconditional belief ultimately delivers two of the world's greatest sports legends. Rated PG-13, duration 2h24m.
If you have movie suggestions, please stop by the office and let us know!

Senior Coastsiders is thrilled to welcome local elected officials including Half Moon Bay Councilmembers AND Congresswoman Anna Eshoo, who will join our volunteers in lunch deliveries as part of our March for Meals campaign. We will also kick off a fun competition among our volunteers to 'bring a friend' to volunteer. Each friend a volunteer brings during the month of March, will enter that volunteer into a raffle for a $100 gift certificate to BK Motors toward a wash or detail! The annual March for Meals celebration commemorates the historic day on March 22, 1972, when President Nixon signed into law a measure that amended the Older Americans Act of 1965 to include a national nutrition program for those 60 years and older. Keep an eye out for new faces in March!

The input received helps bring the community’s perspective into the next step in the budget process, the annual Priority Setting Session. There is one remaining listening session to be held, Thursday, March 2 at the Ted Adcock Center from 6:00-8:00PM. This is your opportunity to let your leaders know what you want for Half Moon Bay; more housing, a new community pool, better infrastructure? Make your voice heard. If you cannot attend, we encourage you to provide your feedback by taking the City Council Listening Session survey.

Senior Preview Night Oscar Wilde pokes fun at the upper class by showing them to be fickle, dishonest and snobbish. Two charming young ladies—sophisticated Gwendolen from the city and naive Cecily from the country—are in love with Earnest Worthing. But there is no such person as Earnest Worthing. Gwendolen thinks Jack is Earnest, and Cecily thinks Algy is Earnest. Each girl swears that she could never love a man who wasn't named Earnest. In the midst of all this confusion comes Lady Bracknell, who doesn't like the idea of anybody loving anybody. It sounds like a big mess, but Wilde unwinds this knotty affair into one of the favorite comedies of English literature. Senior Preview night is Thursday, March 16. Doors open at 7:00PM, show starts at 7:30PM. No reservation required, donations appreciated!

NEW Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Crisis Line - 988 Similar to 911, this new, simplified tool will connect those in need with representatives specifically trained in the management of suicide risk and other mental health crises. One of the goals of the new number is to reduce the use of 911 for suicide and mental health crises, because calling 911 in such situations too often results in inadequate or inappropriate intervention by the police or unnecessary hospitalization or incarceration. This lifeline is critical for older adults and those living with a disability because such individuals are at greater risk for mental
health crises and suicide. If you or someone you know is struggling with a mental health emergency, call 988.

Contemplative Practice for Resilience and Well-Being
|
|
Contemplative practice behaviors include activities such as meditation, prayer, breath awareness, gratitude, and compassion. There is substantial scientific evidence that contemplative practice behaviors provide physical and psychosocial health benefits. Contemplative practices have been shown to strengthen resilience, self-awareness, mindfulness, self-regulation and distress tolerance.
Translating this science into impact, Senior Coastsiders is pleased to offer a dynamic series delivered by content experts and designed to build contemplative practice behaviors and promote resilience. These free sessions occur monthly through May 2023 with some taking place via Zoom and others in person at Senior Coastsiders. A resource booklet will be developed to assist interested individuals in finding out more information about contemplative practices.
Session 7 Mindful Self Compassion - Tuesday, March 28 from 1:00-2:00PM - In Person

- Session 10 Mind-Body Centering, Tuesday, May 9, 4:00-5:00PM (In-person)
In a study conducted among older adults right here on the Coast, individuals who reported high levels of resilience had long held behaviors of contemplative practices that helped them effectively adapt to the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, this study found a strong relationship between higher resilience and improved well-being. This study has just been published in an academic journal after having gone through a rigorous peer review process. If you would like to read the study, it can be accessed HERE.

We take great pride in our community partnerships and view them as one more way to help provide resources for our community.

Senior Coastsiders is partnering with Peninsula Clean Energy to share information about important services and programs.
Who is Peninsula Clean Energy and what do they do?
Peninsula Clean Energy has been the community electricity provider for San Mateo County since 2016, providing clean electricity at lower rates. There’s nothing you have to do to reap the benefits, either - it’s an automatic benefit of living in San Mateo County.
Am I paying an extra charge for Peninsula Clean Energy?
The Peninsula Clean Energy line on page 1 of your PG&E bill is not an extra charge. In fact, you actually pay about 5% less for Peninsula Clean Energy's electricity than you would for electricity generated from PG&E! The electricity part of your PG&E bill is divided into two lines:
- Electricity generation: Peninsula Clean Energy makes, or generates the electricity
- Electricity delivery: PG&E continues to deliver it through their power lines
Peninsula Clean Energy also offers additional savings and rebates!
