A note from Executive Director, Sandi Winter
Awe is defined in the Merriam-Webster dictionary as an “emotion variously combining dread, veneration, and wonder that is inspired by authority or by the sacred or sublime”. Awe is a current trendy research topic with studies finding that experiencing awe improves well-being, induces greater joy and prosocial positive emotions, increases smile intensity, enhances multicultural experiences and connections with others, increases feelings of humility and generosity, improves critical thinking, and decreases materialism and daily distress. Lots of reasons to seek awe-inspiring experiences!
This September I was fortunate enough to experience awe because I visited the Grand Canyon and hiked in Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks with my brother and his partner who were visiting from the United Kingdom. The West Rim of the Grand Canyon is situated on the Hualapai (people of the tall pine) Reservation and features a skywalk with a glass floor suspended hundreds of feet above the canyon floor. Zion has massive sandstone cliffs of cream, pink, and red that soar into a brilliant blue sky. Bryce Canyon has the world’s largest concentration of irregularly eroded spires of rocks called hoodoos. It was truly spectacular!
What do you find awe inspiring? Is it our beautiful coast and ocean, a spectacular rainbow, the intricacies of the pattern on the wings of a bird or insect or a person you think is doing or thinking amazing things. I encourage you to do something awe inspiring this month – I’d love to hear about your experience.

Sending you best wishes.
Sandi
Community News You Can Use!
We take great pride in our community partnerships and view them as one more way to help provide resources for our community.
Senior Coastsiders is partnering with Peninsula Clean Energy to share information about important services and programs.

Who is Peninsula Clean Energy and what do they do?
Peninsula Clean Energy has been the community electricity provider for San Mateo County since 2016, providing clean electricity at lower rates. There’s nothing you have to do to reap the benefits, either- it’s an automatic benefit of living in San Mateo County. Peninsula Clean Energy works in collaboration with PG&E, buying electricity from clean sources but using PG&E's lines to deliver that clean electricity to your home. They provide clean energy from sources like the wind and sun, which helps protect the planet for our kids and future generations.

Am I paying an extra charge for Peninsula Clean Energy?
The Peninsula Clean Energy line on page 1 of your PG&E bill is not an extra charge. In fact, you actually pay about 5% less for Peninsula Clean Energy's electricity than you would for electricity generated from PG&E! The electricity part of your PG&E bill is divided into two lines:
  • Electricity generation: Peninsula Clean Energy makes, or generates the electricity
  • Electricity delivery: PG&E continues to deliver it through their power lines

Peninsula Clean Energy also offers additional savings and rebates!
If you need assistance with shopping, would like to sign up for meals on wheels, need a mask, or need other assistance, we are just a phone call away! Please call our office at 650-726-9056.
Please forward to anyone you think might benefit from this information!
