Class of 2021 Students and Parents:
Can you believe that the end of the school year is just six short weeks away? Our plans for senior activities to close out the school year continue to evolve. It is our goal to have all plans for each event finalized no later than Friday, April 23rd, but I wanted to provide a current update. As has been the case thus far, we will continue to plan and make decisions with safety as our top priority.
Graduation
The 2021 Commencement ceremony will take place on Saturday, May 22nd with a rain date of Sunday, May 23rd. There will be two ceremonies, with the first starting at 10:00am and the second starting at 1:00pm. Each ceremony will last approximately one hour and will be broken down alphabetically. Each ceremony will be held in the stadium on Glenbard East’s campus and will be livestreamed. Although we do plan to read the name of each graduate, in the coming weeks we are seeking to learn whether or not each senior student intends to participate in the in-person ceremony. Each participating graduate will be provided two tickets. More information will be forthcoming as plans are solidified. Additionally, information regarding cap and gown and ticket distribution/pick-up will be forthcoming.
Prom
Glenbard East’s Prom “History in the Making” will now take place on Saturday, May 15th. As it has been mentioned previously, hosting a traditional Prom poses numerous difficulties under the current safety mitigations. Although guidance changed for school day activities, guidance for social events that take place outside of the school day remains the same. That being said, I wanted to share updated information with you. We are planning on groups of approximately 45 students reporting to campus in 45 minute intervals from 5:00pm-11:00pm. Each group would be on campus approximately one hour and forty-five minutes rotating through three different areas for approximately 30 minutes each (more information to come). Upon leaving, students will pick-up a pre-packaged dessert and souvenir to go. Students will be able to purchase tickets and select a time slot from April 19th through April 23rd. Tickets will be $15 (4/19-4/21), and $20 (4/22-4/23). This will be a Glenbard East senior only event with no outside guests. More specific information on logistics will be forthcoming.
Other Senior Celebrations
To help our seniors celebrate the end of an unprecedented year, we have put together 21 Days of Deals for the Senior Class with local businesses. Week 1 started this past Monday, 4/5! Click HERE to see the deals that were lined up for this week. Upcoming weekly deals will be shared via Schoology and the East Daily News.
Our Senior Swag Bag pickup will take place at Glenbard East on Tuesday, 4/27, and Thursday, 4/29, during lunch periods for in-person learners, and from 3pm-4pm at Door 24 (top of the hill) for remote learners. We will also have a pickup option from 10:00am-12:00pm, on Saturday, 5/1, at the Sports Hub in Glendale Heights. All seniors will have the opportunity to receive a t-shirt, face mask, and a water bottle at no cost.
Senior Celebration
Senior Celebration this year will look a little different. Instead of hosting a picnic style event on the football field during the school day, we are planning a “Senior Sunset” event on the evening of Friday, 5/14. Senior students will be invited to come onto the football field on Friday, May 14th at 6:45pm to take a 2021 class photo and watch the sunset at 8pm. This is a free event. No outside food/drink/handbags/ blankets will be allowed. More information to come.
Senior Awards
Our senior academic awards night is scheduled for the evening of Thursday, May 6th. Being that this is an indoor event, we may need to modify how awards are presented. We are looking at making this a virtual event but will continue to assess our ability to hold large gatherings in the coming weeks.
Senior Athlete Recognition
Senior nights and senior recognition will be handled on a sport by sport basis, and head coaches will communicate details with parents and students.

Graduación
La ceremonia de graduación de 2021 se llevará a cabo el sábado 22 de mayo con una fecha de lluvia el domingo 23 de mayo. Habrá dos ceremonias, la primera a partir de las 10:00 am y la segunda a la 1:00 pm. Cada ceremonia tendrá una duración aproximada de una hora y se desglosará alfabéticamente. Paseo

Premios Senior
Nuestra noche de premios académicos de último año está programada para la noche del jueves 6 de mayo. Dado que este es un evento bajo techo, es posible que debamos modificar la forma en que se presentan los premios. Estamos buscando hacer de este un evento virtual, pero continuaremos evaluando nuestra capacidad para realizar grandes reuniones en las próximas semanas.
Reconocimiento de deportistas senior
Las noches y el reconocimiento de los estudiantes de último año se manejarán deporte por deporte, y los entrenadores en jefe comunicarán los detalles a los padres y estudiantes.
