BHS Senior Parents and Students! Below is a listing of important dates and info for seniors and their families. Running Start students please mark your calendars as well. The dates may change or be updated thoughout the year, please visit the Senior page for the most current information.
LIVE Financial Aid Night
Oct 13 7:00-8:15PM
Families can start to join the meeting at 6:45PM and watch the event in Teams—desktop (Windows or Mac), web, or mobile. If you don't have Teams, you can also use a browser (Chrome, Firefox, or Edge).

7:00-7:20PM | Kelsey Peronto, Outreach Specialist for Seattle Colleges-- will talk about the Seattle Promise Scholarship.

7:20-8:00PM | David Aramaki, Financial Planner who specializes in higher education-- will talk about paying for college.

COLLEGE APPLICATION SUPPORT SESSIONS| OCT

Every Wed in Oct (14, 21, 28) from 11:15-12:15 the BHS Counselors are hosting a drop-in session to answer questions about college applications. Drop in anytime during this hour online to ask a Counselor your college application questions. Links to join these meetings are on the Counselor Schoology pages.
FINAL YEAR OF HIGH SCHOOL PRESENTATION
Please refer to the comprehensive recap from the BHS Counselors of the Post High School Planning Senior Meeting.
• Help admissions counselors get a complete picture of the applicant
• Not all colleges request recommendation letters
• Teacher letters of recommendations describe the student as a learner in the classroom. Choose a teacher you’ve developed a rapport within a core subject. If a second is required, ask a teacher in a different subject area
• Counselor letters describe the student holistically as a person
• Letters should be requested at least 2 weeks in advance
• Complete the online Student Information Sheet

VIRTUAL COLLEGE VISITS ARE HAPPENING NOW

Ballard HS is hosting Virtual College Visits this year via Naviance. Students log onto your Naviance account to sign up. Go to “What’s New” to see the list, and click on “more info” to sign up for the visits you are interested in attending. You will get a link prior to the meeting start time. Email the Counseling Secretary Carol Bristol at chbristol@seattleschools.org if you have any questions.

FINANCIAL AID: FAFSA, WASFA, SEATTLE PROMISE

FAFSA and WASFA | Completing the FAFSA or WASFA is the first step in accessing college financial aid. It is required for most scholarships, grants, and loans. High school seniors should apply early to get all of the financial aid that they are eligible for.

Seattle Promise Scholarship | This program provides financial support and ongoing college and career guidance for students to attend one of three Seattle Colleges. All graduating seniors are encouraged to apply. Learn more at Seattle Promise Scholarship.
AP REGISTRATION
CLOSES NOVEMBER 2, 2020
BHS Students must register and pay for their exams by Nov 2, 2020. Students must be currently enrolled in an AP class at Ballard High School. Visit the AP Information page for additional details and information about AP exams.
SENIOR PHOTOS & GRAD ADS FOR YEARBOOK DUE NOV 13, 2020

Seniors you may be contacted by Rowland Studios to have your senior portrait taken as they have been in partnership with Ballard HS for many years. However, you may use any photographer you choose as long as the Senior Portrait meets the attached requirements. Digital photos should be emailed to the Shingle editors at ballardshingle@gmail.com.

YEARBOOK 19-20
PICK UP DAYS NOV 24 & 25
Seniors who have Pre-Purchased a 19-20 yearbook may pick up their yearbooks Tues, Nov 24 or Wed, Nov 25. Please refer to the pick up schedule by last name. Sales for
19-20 will resume on Dec 2 while supplies last.
Jan - June 2021
SENIOR CAP & GOWN ORDERS + PRODUCTS
The time has come to begin the process of getting your Cap & Gown (Red) for Graduation! Visit the National Achiever website Follow Step 1 to collect contact info, on Step 2 & 3 you can explore various Senior products that are available.

Order deadline is Jan 31, 2021, but we recommend that you place your orders before the deadline.
NAVIANCE | ONLINE COLLEGE & CAREER PLANNING TOOL

Naviance Lessons | Seniors need to complete 2 tasks (After High School Plan and Resume Building) on Naviance as part of graduation requirements. School counselors will be doing Naviance lessons during the school year. If you miss these lessons or if you would like to get a head start on them, please follow the instructions on the forms. If you have questions, please contact your assigned Counselor. Read more on the SPS Naviance page.



  • PE Waivers will be granted for only 1 Semester at a time.
  • A student must take other classes to make up for the missing credits to meet the 24 credit requirement.
  • A student who is a Teacher’s Assistant or has a hole in their schedule may not receive a waiver.
  • Waivers are available on your Counselor’s Schoology page.

SERVICE LEARNING
60 hours of volunteer work is required. Students must complete and turn in a Service Learning Log & Reflection Form to have hours count. Please document & send any hours you have already completed to your counselor now. At this time we want students to be safe and not risk their health and safety if they are not comfortable doing community service hours.
