Breaking News

The new MDS 3.0 RAI User's Manual v.1.15 became effective October 1, 2017. Providers can access the manual, the change tables outlining the changes, the new forms and appendix, and a PowerPoint addressing the changes on the CMS Quality Initiatives MDS website. According to CMS, the updates incorporate clarifications to existing coding and transmission policy; as well as clarifications and scenarios concerning complex areas.

Money Matters

Palmetto GBA will begin offering HIGLAS (Healthcare Integrated General Ledger Accounting System) generated overpayment demand letters through eService effective December 1, 2017. To opt out, Providers should update their eServices profile. Providers who have not opted out will receive only the electronic letter copy after December 1, 2017. If you go GREEN, don't forget to monitor!

Coming Down the Pike

CMS has updated the new Medicare Card Overview webpage. The webpage houses important information about the new Medicare cards being issued beginning in April 2018. Stay tuned for important announcements or directions.

Follow-up to September

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Survey and Certification Memo released on September 25, 2017 addressing " Electronic Staffing Submission - Payroll-Based Journal (PBJ) Public Use File" covers the following:

  1. CMS will begin posting PBJ public use files on November 1, 2017.
  2. The Nursing Home Compare website indicates a provider's compliance with payroll submission.
  3. CMS is updating the data submission specifications to give providers the ability to link employee IDs for an employee that changes employee IDs within the facility.
  4. CMS will post an updated PBJ policy manual.
