Happy National Senior Citizens Day!

Celebrate National Senior Citizens Day, Friday, August 21

In August we celebrate the individuals who have spent a lifetime building families, strengthening communities, and creating the memories and traditions we cherish. 💙

On National Senior Citizens Day, we honor the resilience, wisdom, and experiences of the older adults who have shaped our lives. Every person deserves to age with dignity, respect, and the support to continue living safely and independently in the place they call home.

At Caring Companions Kalamazoo, it is our privilege to help make that possible through compassionate, personalized care for both individuals and the families who love them.

To all the seniors in our community—thank you for the lives you've lived, the lessons you've shared, and the legacy you continue to build every day.

Navigating Medicare

How to Lower Prescription Drug Costs for Kalamazoo Seniors

Managing a chronic health condition or navigating senior care is complex enough without the added stress of skyrocketing prescription costs. For many older adults on Medicare in Kalamazoo and Portage, the monthly out-of-pocket expense for life-saving medications can easily strain a fixed budget.

Medicare Open Enrollment happens from October 15 – December 7, 2026 and is the time when you can make changes to your coverage.

At Caring Companions Kalamazoo, we routinely see how these financial pressures ripple through entire households. Read our guide to local and national resources, along with specific strategies you can implement today.

How to Keep Track of Important Details (When Caring for Your Senior)

We’ve developed this handy patient profile form that you can use with doctors, care providers, other healthcare services, and family members. It gives a quick snapshot of your loved one’s desires, habits, favorite things, and, most importantly, medications.

To use the form, download it and print it, then fill it in and keep it on hand for appointments. You can even make multiple copies to share with other interested caregivers or doctors.
