Maryland Association of Senior Centers
We are pleased to announce that the Waldorf and Clark Senior Center were recipients of awards presented by the Maryland Association of Senior Centers (MASC.)
Join me in congratulating Debi Shanks and Brittany Arbin (top picture) for their winning program featured in the expressive and creative arts category titled "Drums Alive."
The Waldorf Senior Center - Ann Walter, Julie Brasher, Julie Youmans, and Cindy Bladen (bottom picture) received an award in the fitness category for their program titled "Badminton." This is a great opportunity to acknowledge the hard work and continued support staff put in the planning of all programs offered at the four senior centers.
Congratulations to Waldorf and the Clark Senior Centers for this major accomplishment!

The County Fair is Coming Sept. 14-17
The fair is approaching and everyone needs to finish their projects. Entries are always needed for the senior building at the Fair (age 60 or older.) Two entry maximum per class.
Entry selections include:
- Needle Arts: crocheting, knitting, needlepoint, sewn garments, decorated baskets, pillows, embroidery, counted cross stitch, quilting, rugs, decorated accessories, dolls, and more.
- Arts and Crafts: watercolors, oils, acrylics, drawings, ceramics, pottery, woodcarving. Christmas decorations, toys, decorative items, photographs, calligraphy, jewelry, and more.
- Collections: Scrapbooks, stamps, coins, and more.
Entries must have been completed Sept. 2016-Sept. 2017, excluding collections with new additions. Fair books are available now at senior centers and libraries.
How to Enter Your Fair Items:
- Now through Sept. 8: Visit www.charlescountyfair.com/exhibitor and click the link in the "On the Web" box at the bottom of the page.
- Sunday, Sept. 10: The Fair office will be open from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. to issue exhibitor numbers and necessary entry materials. DO NOT BRING YOUR EXHIBITS AT THIS TIME. Exhibitors from the previous three years do not need to obtain a new number. You may also use blank entry forms from previous years.
- Wednesday, Sept. 13, 1-8 p.m.: Entries will be accepted in the senior building. Each exhibitor will be assigned an exhibitor number which is to be used throughout the Fair, regardless of the number of departments you are entering. Make sure you give your complete mailing address when you receive your exhibitor number. You can obtain your exhibitor number, entry forms, and tags as follows:
- You may get your exhibitor number and entry forms/ tags at the entry table at the fairgrounds. Complete the forms before taking your exhibit to the Senior Building.
Fair Volunteers Needed
Ten pairs of volunteers are needed to monitor the Senior Building. Each pair will commit to a block of time beginning at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 14 through 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 17. Senior building volunteers will serve two purposes; to keep an eye on the projects and to promote the senior centers.

TRIPS Supported by Senior Center Councils
Day Trip to Baltimore Begin the day at the National Aquarium. After, take a walk to Phillips Seafood for lunch (choice of crab cake, chicken sand-wich, or Caesar salad with chicken or shrimp. Finish up with a 45-minute har-bor boat cruise with climate-controlled lower deck and open air upper deck. Transportation partially sponsored by the Waldorf Senior Center Council. Space is limited, first come, first served.

Miracle of Christmas
Sight and Sound Theatre (Lancaster, PA) Travel to Lancaster to enjoy a family style lunch at Plain & Fancy Restaurant and watch the memorable show, "Miracle of Christmas." The show tells the story of the anticipation and arrival the Messiah. Fee includes: deluxe bus transporta-tion, snacks, lunch at Plain & Fancy, show tickets, taxes, and tips. Transportation par-tially sponsored by Waldorf Senior Center Council and Senior Services of Charles County.

Mindfulness (SS) Is your mind full, or are you mindful? Join Birgit Locklear from DHMH as she introduces us to Mindfulness. Christmas at Biltmore House Featuring a Candlelight Tour

Begin with an early departure to Asheville, North Carolina arriving just in time to freshen up and join everyone for dinner. Day 2, After breakfast depart for a historical tour of Asheville visiting the Folk Art Center, Grove Circle, Biltmore Village then on to dinner at the Deerpark Restaurant.
