Dear Seniors and Parents/Guardians,
With the constantly changing college admission requirements affecting the Class of 2021, we want to keep you informed of recent changes and announcements specific to college admission testing. We wish to continue to alleviate some stress around testing by highlighting the nearly 1,500 colleges that have announced that they will be test-optional or test-blind this year. Please visit www.fairttest.org for the most updated list. Colleges continue to make these policy change announcements.
As you may have read or heard in the news this week, the University of California has been ordered by court injunction to cease from considering SAT/ACT test scores in undergraduate admission. That now means that our students applying to any of the nine University of California campuses or the 23 Cal State Universities will not need SAT/ACT test scores for admission to these schools.
Offering SAT on-campus
We do know that we still have students that remain interested in taking an exam. Our local SAT testing centers canceled the test scheduled for August. With this in mind, Carondelet, along with De La Salle, would like to offer an official SAT School Day Test on Wednesday, October 14.
This official SAT will be offered on our campus, with DLS offering their own test on its campus. The test will be SAT only (without essay) and costs $54 for most students and a reduced fee for students who presently receive financial aid. We are offering this format because there are only three remaining colleges that require the essay (The U.S. Military Academy-West Point, University of Montana Western, and Martin Luther College).
No more than 14 students will be in each testing space. Students are required to wear masks during the entire four hour testing time. An official registration form for this test and payment, along with additional details, will be sent out in the upcoming days.
There are many logistics involved, including planning for adequate space and acquiring the correct number of test proctors.
1-minute Interest Survey
As such, we are asking all seniors to take one minute to fill out this SAT Interest Survey to indicate whether or not you plan to take the on-campus SAT test on October 14. Please complete the form by September 9 so that we can effectively plan and set up registration.
Students who opt to take the October 14 test at Carondelet will be placed into cohorts and this will impact existing on-campus, indoor cohorts that a student may be part of. We will have to take a student out of an existing on-campus cohort for a period of time both before and after the test, but access to that existing cohort will still be available virtually. Offering the test is subject to Contra Costa Health Services restrictions.
