MSCR After School Clubs and Sports Info
Hello MSCR families! My name is DeVonte Robinson, I am the site director and tutor coordinator here at Sennett. I met many families at our Back to School night and can't wait to meet so many more. Technology Updates
Greetings Sennett Families!
Here’s what you need to know about school technology this month:
- Chromebooks & chargers are used every day at Sennett- make sure your scholar(s) are bringing them back and forth to school
- Every student should have gotten a name label for their chromebook and their charger. It is a building expectation that these stay visible and on the chromebook & charger.
-
We do offer overnight charging for chromebooks at Sennett- students can drop their chromebook off with Ms. Beckett at the end of the day, and pick it up the next morning.

Updates from the Sennett Health Office
Covid Updates: This year we have Covid nurses at the district level to assist with Covid
Home tests are now accepted - both negative and positive tests
If a student is positive for Covid, isolate 5 days. Can return to school on day 6 if symptoms are improving and no fever (fever is 100.4 or above)/vomiting/diarrhea for 24 hours AND wear a mask at school on days 6 to 10. If unable to wear a mask, they can return to school on day 11. No testing is needed for the return day.
If a student is symptomatic and has a negative rapid test, they can stay at school unless they have fever (100.4F or above) and/or vomiting and diarrhea. Students will mask if symptomatic. If symptomatic and do not test (refuse or unable), the student will need to go home for at least 24 hours.
Those exposed to COVID-19 should follow recommendations to wear a well-fitting mask x 10 days, get tested 5 days after last exposure, and monitor for symptoms for 10 days.
Covid testing will be in our buildings only 3 hours per day and only for students and staff. Sennett: M-F 12:15pm-3:15pm.
MEDICATIONS AT SCHOOL:
We want to remind all parents that written parent and health care provider permission is required for any medication to be given at school. This includes all non-prescription medications.
We apologize for any inconvenience, but these policies were put into place to ensure the safety of all students.
Please see the Board of Education Medication policy # 4113 here
Parent and physician medication forms can be downloaded from the MMSD website here
You can also call the health office with any additional questions, concerns, or to obtain forms for medication at school. (608)204-2406
IMMUNIZATIONS
Immunizations help protect people from certain infectious diseases. Are your students up-to-date on their immunizations? We are in the process of calling families of students who need vaccines. Wisconsin required vaccines for Kindergarten to 5th grade can be found at: https://www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/library/p-02395.htm. Students will not be allowed to attend school starting October 14th if their immunizations are not complete. Students will not be allowed to return to school until they have either received the needed vaccines or until October 24.

Advanced Learning
Dear Families,
I hope your school year is off to a great start!
MMSD’s Advanced Learning (AL) Department recognizes the need to support and develop strengths and talents of our students. Advanced Learning provides learning opportunities that broaden, deepen, and stretch beyond grade level expectations when students are ready for additional challenges. Students identified to receive these supports show high capabilities or the potential for high performance. Your Advanced Learning Specialist will reach out to gather more information about your student if school data sources indicate that Advanced Learning services and supports might be a good fit.
What do Advanced Learning programs and supports look like at my child’s school?
In middle school, the majority of advanced learning and talent development needs are met through differentiation and extension in the classroom.
Differentiation: tailoring classroom instruction to meet a student’s learning needs by adjusting what is learned and how it is learned (e.g. more challenging topics for similar tasks; more challenging tasks for same topic).
Extensions: changes or additions to learning opportunities. (e.g. going deeper into core- aligned content; small group work). Digital AL extensions are available through your student’s teacher in the areas of ELA, Humanities, Science and Math for 2022-23. These are also available on the MMSD website.
Talent development: differentiation and extensions provided with support to nurture more intense motivation and higher achievement. There will also be opportunities for students to stretch their skills through contests and writing projects throughout the year.
A smaller number of students have more intense needs that require additional supports that may include work with an AL Specialist, or even content area or grade level acceleration.
Join the Advanced Learning Advisory Committee (ALAC)
Our committee is open to all parents/guardians and staff. We value your support and feedback on the current plan, as well as future Advanced Learning plan development and programming. Meetings will be held quarterly during the 2022-2023 school year. Dates and locations will be posted on our website:https://advanced.madison.k12.wi.us/AL-Advisory.
Writing Enrichment Opportunities
Each Humanities class will receive a presentation that goes over the writing enrichment opportunities for the school year. They include NaNoWriMo, Greater Dane Writing Project (formerly Yahara), and Young Playwrights for Change. Students can sign up through Mrs. Jarvey. Please see the flier for more details.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions,
Have a great year!
Sincerely,
Carlie Jarvey
Advanced Learning Teacher
