AFTER-SCHOOL TRANSPORTATION INFORMATION

FAMILIES WHO LIVE IN THE MCFARLAND, SOUTH MADISON AREA, AND FAR EAST SIDE AREA:

MSCR can now provide limited transportation to students who live in these areas. Badger Bus will provide vans for transportation after school. We ask that if you are available to pick up your student after school, that you please continue doing so. This offer is to benefit families that want their students to participate in MSCR activities, but due to lack of transportation are unable. If you believe your scholar qualifies for this offer please contact us. Availability is very limited and will only be offered to the first 25 families that qualify. As of this time, this is the best we can do; if your student does not qualify and they decide to continue attending MSCR, they will still need transportation home. Please contact the MSCR Site Director for more information.

Some vital information to share with parents:

No need to sign up for any of these clubs.

Coming Soon: MMSD Summer Arts Academy

MMSD K-12 students can access and gain exposure to a wide, vibrant range of out-of-the-ordinary arts experiences this summer! Community Arts groups, Teaching Artists, and MMSD staff are joining in this unique opportunity to create and lead Arts experiences for our students. This isn’t a standalone program - our goal is to encourage and build kids’ continued engagement and enrollment in the arts into the coming school year.

Opportunities in Music, Theatre, Dance, and Visual Art are in the works, with committed involvement from Overture Center for the Arts, Black Star Drumline, Madison Children’s Museum, and others. We will also have exciting options in active development with other arts organizations, as well as individual teachers and teaching artists from around the city, and far and wide!

Running in partnership with MMSD Summer Semester and MSCR’s offerings, MMSD’s Summer Arts Academy programming is geared toward self-expression, self-identity, and growing students' interests in arts experiences. The Academy will offer unique, inspiring learning opportunities, and provide improved access by ensuring all of our programming and transportation is free of charge for registered students.

More details are coming soon, and registration will be available for families as early as April 4, 2022. You don’t want to miss out!

Sennett Virtual Job Fair

We're currently in the works for a summer job fair specifically for 8th graders who are looking for a job this summer.

Stay tuned for updates regarding this event in the coming weeks, and if you want to make sure you don’t miss anything, please check back on the Sennett MSCR website regularly.

We hope to see you there! Please contact Ms. Nese or Mr. Robinson with any further questions or concerns @ 608-204-1948

Forward Exam

Each year, Wisconsin students in grades 3-8, and 10, participate in the state’s Forward Exam. Schools across the state must select a date from March 21 through April 29, 2022 to give the test. Our school is scheduled to take the Forward Exam in sections on a variety of days starting the week of 3/21 and during the first two weeks back from spring break.

The Forward Exam measures knowledge and skills students should have for their grade level. The Exam tests students in the areas of English language arts (ELA); mathematics in grades 3-8; science in grades 4 and 8; and social studies in grades 4, 8, and 10. One or more subtests may be administered daily during our selected time frame. The results of these tests will be used to help school staff make determinations regarding curriculum, placement, and services to best support students.

Student performance on the assessment will not affect their grades. Please encourage students to take the test seriously, do the best they can, get a good night’s rest prior to the exam, and eat breakfast at school (remember, it’s free this year for all students). Students not in school on testing days will be scheduled for a make-up test prior to the close of the testing window.
State assessments, including the Forward Exam, are required by both State (Wis. Stat. § 118.30) and Federal (ESSA-Every Student Succeeds Act) Law. Additionally, the Forward Exam is given in-person, with no virtual/remote options available. Students in Madison Virtual Elementary (MVE) and Madison Promise will receive additional information about taking the test in-person.

The Department of Public Instruction (DPI) has created a Forward Exam Information for Families brochure, which gives more information about the assessment. (Spanish version of brochure; Hmong version of brochure). Additionally, if you have any questions regarding the state assessment system or specific assessments, please contact Tim Peterson, MMSD Director of Assessment, at tpeterson2@madison.k12.wi.us

As always, thank you for your ongoing support and partnership,
