Sennett PTO information
-
The PTO and the Sennett community would like to give a special thank you to our out-going president, John Duncan. John has been involved in the PTO for many years at Sennett, including serving as president this year, but will be moving on after this year as his kids will both be in high school. John has been instrumental in coordinating the many activities of the PTO, including working with staff on the many details involved in planning the craft fair, organizing thank you meals for staff, and hosting our monthly PTO meetings. John is always willing to jump in and help out with whatever is needed for any event or project, and will be greatly missed at Sennett next year.
-
Sennett PTO Board. Sennett PTO is looking for board members that would be willing to help organize events and help the PTO support the Sennett Community next year. End of The Year Tech Information
Greetings Sennett Families!
All current 6th and 7th grade students who are continuing in MMSD for the 2022-23 school year are welcome to take home and use their assigned chromebook and charger during the summer 2022. If you would prefer that your current 6th or 7th grade student(s) NOT take their chromebook and charger home over the summer, we are happy to store them here at Sennett, and we will return them to your child(ren) in the fall. Students who would like to store their chromebook & charger at Sennett for the summer can bring them to Ms. Beckett in the library between 7:30a-3:20p on June 8th and 9th.
All current 8th graders will receive a brand new chromebook at their MMSD high school this fall. All MMSD middle schools are collecting 8th graders’ chromebooks and chargers at the end of the year. Sennett will be collecting them on Tuesday, June 7th. If your 8th grade child(ren) does not return a chromebook or charger, or if they return either item damaged, you will receive a fee in Infinite Campus over the summer.
Students who are planning to attend summer school will be provided devices to use onsite to support their summer learning.
If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s chromebook or charger, you can email Julie Beckett at jlbeckett@mmsd.org or text her at 608-620-3424.

Dean's List Celebration:
On May 31st, each grade level gathered in the Dowden Auditorium for our Dean's List Raffle Prize drawings.
Every month this school year, a theme was chosen for students to focus on. These ranged from being on time, carrying their binder to every class, increasing iReady and Achieve diagnostic scores, and finishing XELLO work to name a few. Data was collected each month and a list of kids who achieved the goal was posted in the front hallway. This was the first year of our Dean's List. It was brought in as a new idea by Heather Jones, our new Dean of Students. She teamed up with Beth Hawker, the CCCR coordinator, and together, ideas were brainstormed and rewards were planned. Kids had special treats at lunch, hot chocolate in the winter, and most recently, our gift card drawing. Over 40 gift cards were drawn for winners in each grade level. Student names were entered as many times as they "made the Dean's list." Congratulations to all the winners and a special shout out of thanks to the Monona Drive Rocky's, Kwik Trip, Q'Doba, and NOODLES, for pitching in extra FREE donations to the cause. The extra free gift cards they donated really helped us reach the 40 per grade level drawings.

CCCR Updates for the School Year
It has been a very busy year in our CCCR classes. Students worked on goal setting on a quarterly basis. Students were given time to add to their e-portfolio each quarter. Then each grade level had different themes of activities to work through. Some of these lessons were led by a teacher, some were self-paced.
- The 8th grade heavily focused on 10+ Transition to High School lessons in the 2nd quarter. They continued into 3rd quarter with a college focus and culminated with a trip to Madison College.
- The 7th grade focused heavily on career development in the 1st and 2nd quarters. Their lessons and self-assessments and research culminated in their trip to FutureQuest.
- The 6th graders started the year with a reflection on their Transition to 6th grade. They continued with some work in our XELLO career guidance website and have ended the year learning about the very basics of college - vocabulary to know, college info trivia, and a College Info Scavenger Hunt..

PATHWAYS Updates for 8th graders:
Mr. Creed Hansen, from LAF, recently dropped off a welcome letter and bag of goodies to each 8th grader who made it into the LAF high school PATWHAYS programs. La Follette has two PATHWAYS, the Health Science path, and the Informational Technology Pathway. Congratulations to the thirty 8th graders who made this choice for themself and filled out the application!

6th-grade AVID Selection Information
A new cohort of 7th-grade AVID students was chosen from the 6th-grade candidates. We are so pleased to welcome 44 new students to the AVID elective class program. These students filled in applications, videotaped themselves answering interview questions, wrote a 100-word essay, and secured a teacher recommendation. We had a HUGE number of applicants. Many were placed on the waiting list or asked to consider applying again in 7th and 8th grade. Luckily, as an AVID schoolwide school, everyone gets the basics of the best AVID program skills.

Sennett Day of Silence - April 14
On April 14th, many students participated in the Day of (No) Silence 2023 to bring awareness and highlight the oppression of the LGBTQIA+ community.
Many students and staff wore ribbons of support during the day and several students took a vow of silence. At the end of the day, we ended the day with a “Break the Silence” Rally, where student screamed “I am enough”, painted posters, chalked the concrete, and chatted and listened to empowering music.

2022 in Review:
· Our event provided two scholarships for the 8th grade Washington DC trip for Sennett and Whitehorse Middle Schools. Our scholarship winners are:
Kayla Gant from Sennett, she cried tears of joy when she found out she was the recipient - $1000.00 scholarship.
The twins, Eliot, and Logan Casey from Whitehorse, jumped for joy when they found out they were recipients - $1000.00 ($500.00 each) scholarship.
· We donated $2000 to both: Sennett and Whitehorse Middle School Running Clubs. That funding has allowed both middle school clubs to enter more cross country meets.
· Last fall Sennett hosted an “All Middle School Cross Country Meet” funded in part by No Fear All Fun. Over 80 middle school runners from Madison Middle Schools participated. We are making a difference.
· We provide funding for the LaFollette Boys and Girls Cross Country Brat Sale

Changes in Middle School Start/End Times for 2023-2024
We hope this letter finds you well. As we continue preparations for the 2023-24 school year, we wanted to update you on some important transportation changes and updates to our start times for the 2023-2024 school year.
First and foremost, we want to express our gratitude for your continued support and partnership as we work to provide the best possible education for students.
Earlier this year, the district engaged in a process to hire transportation providers, and we are pleased to announce that we have selected First Student for elementary and middle schools. Beginning in the fall, elementary and middle school students will be transported on yellow buses provided by First Student. High school students will continue to ride Metro buses to and from school.
As part of this shift, we are also excited to share that we will be moving from a three-tier routing system to two start times for elementary and one start time for middle schools, beginning fall 2023. This change will allow us to accommodate earlier start times for our youngest learners and later start times for our middle school students, reflecting the spirit of the start times plan the Board of Education approved in July 2018 and later disrupted by the pandemic.
We encourage families to ask any questions via the Let’s Talk form on our website.
Specific information about bus stops and pick up/drop off times will be shared with families in August.
The 2023-2024 start and dismissal times are as follows:
Middle Schools
8:40 a.m. start • 2:30 p.m. Monday early release
8:40 a.m start - 4:10 p.m. Tuesday-Friday dismissal

Bus/Transportation Information
Transportation to and from school is provided by Madison Metro Transit. Please visit this Metro Transit website for routes specific to Sennett Students (scroll down to the bottom and click on Sennett Middle School)
Families - please be aware, if there is an issue with a Metro Bus (bus breaks down or has a mechanical issue) Metro Transit will always send another bus to the scene to take the kids home. Remind your students they should wait until the new bus arrives. They do not need to walk home. Metro Transit has assured us they send another bus as soon as possible but there may be delays based on bus availability. Thank you
If your student received a EZ Rider bus pass at the beginning of the year and has lost it, please have them report it to the Sennett Main Office and we will work on getting them a new pass.
